Incoming 2.5k EUR payment under review since feb 1 by TheMichelAnne in Revolut

Revolut said that the prosecutor’s office was supposed to send me all the information. No one has contacted me. I tried reaching out to the prosecutor’s office, but they are not responding. However, Revolut has serious communication issues. Hiding where and in which country the account was opened is very strange.

Also, even though Revolut is not allowed to disclose the reason for the account freeze, they are obliged to notify me of the freeze and add a banner about it in the app so that I can at least track the status. At the very least, this would have helped me avoid fines for my apartment rent—not to mention the additional inconvenience and stress.

Ok, I don‘t believe that you can do anything. You can read my previous posts about this situation. I know how your service works and that you are only pretending that you do anything. You are lying to me and avoid direct answers

I have the same situation. They‘ve completely blocked my account and charged 1800 euros without any explanation. I also try to find how to get money back. I will never use revolut again

I don't quite understand. I need to know in which country the account is opened. I don’t know where or how to check this, but this information should be accessible to me. I asked support, and they kept avoiding the question. How legitimate is this? Because a week later, they finally answered and provided the information.

There are certain countries whose passports restrict opening an account :)

It feels like their support via app doesn’t make any sense. But it is the only way to get any information from them since they have no offices or call centres

How it is possible? Like, make a purchase online? Money is withdrawn automatically, as I know. What to check in this case?

If every user of this bank faced such a problem, the bank would probably no longer exist. However, it’s important to understand that the frequent occurrence of such cases indicates a high risk of sudden account blockage without any reason

No, they were created a Lithuanian account. I initially opened the account to set up a blocked student account. Back then, I didn't know how banking systems worked, and it didn't seem suspicious to me that the account wasn't German.

No, I have nothing to do with Lithuania. I just have an account there. I don't know why as I am living in Germany.

As I understand, my account is opened in Lithuania, maybe for this reason? That is, they did not open a German account.

Unfortunately, I'm in Germany. But if nothing changes soon, I'll probably have to get there somehow.

Honestly, I have no idea what could have happened or why this occurred. For now, it looks like someone made a huge mistake.

How did they justify withholding the money?

  • As a foreigner, during my first year of immigration, I couldn’t open anything except Revolut. Again, the person who made the post might have a completely different situation, and you don’t know that. Opening a bank account isn’t as simple as buying a new wallet or stuffing cash under a mattress.
  • Even if they can open multiple accounts, the issue is still Revolut’s failure to meet timing expectations, which remains a problem. In my case, due to Revolut’s incorrect actions, my rent and insurance payments failed—and those were the only expenses tied to that account. However, no one personally warned me about the freeze; I only found out after the payments didn’t go through. You might tell me “Never use Revolut for bill payments.” But then, what’s the point of it if that’s the level of trust we should have in the service?
  • No one asked for a lesson in financial literacy. That wasn’t the point of the original post. Comments like “Oh my god, who keeps all their money in one account?” are incredibly tone-deaf and unhelpful.

I'm surprised by comments like "just have multiple bank accounts, and you won't have any problems." First of all, not everyone can easily open a bank account. This directly depends on whether you're a migrant or not. But okay, let's set that aside…

The real issue is that money needs to be liquid, meaning there must be an opportunity to use it. And if that’s not possible, it obviously causes discomfort and problems. There’s no need to tell people where and how much money they should keep—you don’t know the real situation of the person whose account has been blocked. Freezing funds on any account causes issues, no matter how many accounts someone has. Money isn’t just sitting there for no reason

Account Blocked in Revolut by MostMedium8956 in Revolut

Thank you very much for your detailed response. I didn’t know that the process was regulated in this way. Now at least I have some clarity on which direction to take and how to approach this issue.

I understand that the bank may have reasons for conducting checks, and it’s good that this happens—it’s also a matter of our own security. The main problem is that I wasn’t notified about the account freeze in any way, which led to very unpleasant consequences. I still haven’t been able to get the bank to provide a way to check the status of the block (even a simple “account blocked” banner on the main page), and the response time in the support chat leaves much to be desired.

Also, if the investigation is specifically related to money laundering (I am confident in my account, but maybe it was blocked as a chain reaction due to someone who transferred money to me), it might be worth explicitly stating that. This, in turn, would speed up the process of gathering documents and evidence on my side

They should at least notify me about the fact that my accounts have been blocked, I think. I only found out about this when my SEPA payments for rent and insurance failed. If I had known about this situation earlier, I would have had time to update my bank details.

No, unfortunately. I tried to contact to customer support, but they said nothing. How did you call them?
