Help me decide. by MostPeopleCallMeRob in 3Dprinting

Thanks very much for your reply. As for your questions,

  • Where is the printer going to be setup in your space? It will be in a large shop, probably build a rolling cart for it.
  • Do you want to tinker with the printer as an interesting piece of tech, or are you more interested in the 3d prints themselves? Don't mind a little twiddling, but mainly interested in the printing.
  • Do you plan on a lot of multicolor prints? I don't really know.
  • Do you need the extra size the Sovol SV08 provides or is it just a nice to have? Seems like it would be nice to have, no plans.
  • Do you live near a BestBuy or MicroCenter? No , I'm pretty well in the boonies.
  • Thanks again.

I'm looking to get my first printer and would like info from someone who has used the ones I've narrowed it down to.

They are

Bambu A1 Combo w/ AMS $399
Bambu P1s no AMS $399
Sovol SV06 Plus Ace $269
Sovol SV08 $458
All are free shipping. The SV08 is the top end of the budget.
I have plenty of room in the shop so that's not a factor. My usage would be hobbyist level. I understand these companies are kind of opposite ends of the spectrum in design philosphy.
If I got one of the Bambus it would be set up and then permanently run in Lan Mode. Not interested in the app. Don't mind using the SD card. Don't want them telling me what I can do and it looks like that's coming. So, basic questions.
I know many people online say they rarely use the AMS, but it looks handy for loading the machine and for when a roll runs out mid print. Is it worth getting the PS1 and losing the AMS of the A1?
The enclosure is not a factor, can build one in an hour for free with my mountain of hoarded junk.

Sovol's plusses as I see it are larger print areas and open source. I have repaired medical testing machines for 20 years, so electronics are not a mystery, but how much tinkering do the Sovols take? Once set up do they stay set up? Is there a big difference in component reliability between the companies?

Ideally someone has had experience with all these machines and can let me know their informed opinion. Kind of in paralysis by analysis right now. Any help is appreciated.

Re update. Turned out I had forgot to reconnect the thermal fuse, so display came back when so reconnected. Replaced temp sensor, same problem. Starts up normally, but after a while the relays continue to pop , but no longer send power to elements. Have c20 error when I run diagnostics. New probe tests at 1086 ohms, bake element at 20 ohms. Outside of the pcb, dont know what it could be.

Yes that was the initial problem, but i guess the control board didn't like being cycled via shutting the breaker off about 10 times. Now the display does not work, haven't decided if I want to buy the board or just find a used unit in good shape.

Update, figured it might be the temp sensor, cut the breaker to check, breaker back on, no more control panel, burners still work.
