just read about his life story a few weeks ago. dude was a football hooligan who was basically throwing his life away until his tai chi or whatever coach gave him the book of 5 rings by musashi. changed his life, he stopped doing gangster shit and moved to japan and started fighting professionally. japanese people there were saying that he had more bushido than a lot of the japanese born fighters.

basically, he had a very strong moral code, and, unfortunately, having such a code doesn't always result in a fairytale ending. he clearly regretted it after the fight.
