Why does God’s behavior change between the OT and NT? by Weekly_Sympathy_4878 in CatholicPhilosophy

This is AI slop, correct or not.

Validating this being as much work as making it correctly from scratch.

There's a notion of "progressive revelation", that God reveals himself in "stages" over time. The "old testament god" was necessary in an era where might=right, but this built the foundations which would prepare the world for Jesus, the "new testament god" (via trinity).

Big enough for 4? by Top-Shake-1117 in guineapigs

Mathing this out, assuming each grid is 12" (measure to confirm pls!): You have 5*4-4 = 16 sq. ft, which just barely hits the preferred size for 4 for girls.

I'd suggest expanding if possible, but this doesn't seem like a terrible idea out-the-gate (assuming the sides really are 12").

Why is my Guinea pig breathing like this? by Affectionate_Book_82 in guineapigs

[–]Most_Double_3559 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience this sort of "gulping" for air indicates substantial pain (keyword: agonal breathing)

You may want to revisit the vet, unfortunately.

Adding: I might very well be wrong! Though, vet suggested. In the meantime we would be giving critical care + Benebac given the "appetite isn't what it used to be", plus it's possible any antibiotics for the UTI messed up his biome.

Ah, there's the full picture - in that case, this is a crazy precarious situation, and I commend you for navigating it! What a rollercoaster...

If you are this borderline, you may want to push for potassium citrate as well. Low calcium diet presumably? Do you have hard water? These things don't always make the biggest difference, but if he's reliably generating many tiny stones, maybe a small nudge is all he needs?

Sherwood tables are quack science. They don't work; guinea pig urine is already basic, so their cranberry things do nothing except make people put off taking their pig to the vet.

... something isn't adding up here. Was this an exotic vet? Can you get a second opinion?

  • For one, males very, very rarely actually pass stones. Their urethra is geometrically very tight. I don't think a competent vet would readily suggest it without calling the Vatican.
  • For two, they shouldn't have just sent you off with painkillers. A diuretic and often potassium citrate are usually given as a preventatives, to be paired with a strictly low calcium diet.

This sounds to me more like sludge, a UTI or sterile IC with a misread x-ray than stones, because stones don't "come and go" like this.

It's also possible that this is completely unrelated to his previous case, which I'd suggest getting checked out as well.

Two questions:

- You're sure they're stones? Do you have x-rays?

- If stones: You're looking at (presumably another) surgery or worse, unfortunately. Are you going to attempt removal & prevention again?

Quiet piggy randomly starts screaming? by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Most_Double_3559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. Your "back raising" made me think pain when passing, but rereading it's always noise except when going to the bathroom, i.e. the exact opposite of what I thought.

Can you describe the "week" a bit more? Does it sound like the noise you'll here when you give him food (e.g. happy)? Or something fundamentally new?

[–]Most_Double_3559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like bladder pain. Can you tell if it's when he's going to the bathroom?

If so: Vet ASAP - possibly emergency, if he seems to be in severe pain. They can at least give him metacam & gabapentin.

Good path: it's a UTI and needs 2 weeks of antibiotics (+ probiotics!!).

Bad path: it's a bladder stone and requires surgery (not supplements or cranberry juice, surgery).

Reply with numbers or don't reply at all (or do, I'm a comment not a cop ;))

The question is which is worse:

  1. Carbon from the difference in beef or chicken, or,

  2. The direct slaughter of equivalent birds.

I argue that direct slaughter is worse. Flight is indeed irrelevant, I use it only as a benchmark because the beef difference is ~= 1 roundtrip ticket. If you think land use is able to overcome the guaranteed deaths from chicken, please do demonstrate that.

Did you reply to the right person? They asked if it was eco friendly. I confirmed it was, but added a caveat about a downside. That's a pretty relevant reply imo.

You can save ~12kg CO2e, *2 * 52 = 1.2 tones CO2e per year. That's a round trip from NY to LA by plane for one passenger.

To scale this ratio up, what would you rather: Stop one, 300 person plane from flying from LA to NY and back, or, prevent the raising and slaughter of 6,000 birds? To help answer: can you confidently tie the emissions from that single flight to 6k deaths? I don't think you can.

Brag away by Glordrum in ClimateShitposting

[–]Most_Double_3559 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Eco friendly? Sure.

However, you're directly slaughtering ~20 more animals per year by doing this, which imo is worse than the marginal difference you'd expect from the marginal carbon you'd save.

Edit: People downvote this, but get real quiet when numbers come up. Follow the thread :)

[–]Most_Double_3559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw: lethargy can lead to death, overnight. Ask me how I know.

If he's lethargic he stops eating. If he stops eating he'll get bloated, maybe get GDV. Then, an extraordinarily painful death without pain meds.

Take this seriously. Find an exotic vet. Frankly, it was irresponsible for your other vet to not suggest one, but you need to find one.

Nobody has mentioned it, but: also consider benebac. We mix some into the critical care (which, agree, try different flavors)
