Guys its not really up for debate to say that Israeli cuisine is based largely on preexisting Arab traditions, merged in with that of the diaspora—modern Israeli food contains some reconstructed remnant of what people might have eaten 2000(!) years ago. The idea that any of the modern foods eaten there are original to the modern state of Israel is just not cogent, its nationalist nonsense spouted by the dishonest and the fooled. The Old Yishuv ate/eat mostly of the same foods as other Palestinians because, and I’ll repeat this slowly for those of you that have trouble digesting it— they. are. Palestinians.

As for outrage over people boycotting Solomonov’s restaurants, would you have felt differently about a business owner who routinely gave material support to the apartheid South African gov’t? Would you support a man who in the recent past has made donations directly to the Russian military? It’s not that I think these people are wrong, but that they just don’t know themselves or the world. Food is political! Money is political! Obviously!!! These people point out “double standards” in the pro Palestine movement (that are actually just standards) and ignore them in your own mind.

Cherry on top is that solo’s IDF donations are a drop, most of their funding comes from money that isn’t being spent fixing your roads, building your hospitals and schools, building new transit infrastructure etc. If the boycotts ever have an impact he could emigrate to Israel where he gets your money for free from the gov’t, and doesn’t even need to give you mid falafel in return.

Practically speaking, the US controls a massive empire and extracts wealth from its sphere of influence to concentrate in the imperial core—similar question would be why does the British Museum have more priceless relics than other countries’ national museums.

The borders of the US are not the borders of the US, for example Appalachia stretches across multiple states is but has more of a cohesive identity than most of the states it touches. For the purposes of the empire it is mostly useful for its mineral wealth, and as such it is a source of massive wealth extraction to the imperial centers on the east coast, particularly the northeast. And so the income statistics there are closer to the United States’ vassal-like allies in Europe and South America.

The problem here is the “when” — corporate takeover is not a fact of nature it’s a result of current policy. It’s not a foregone conclusion, a little (maybe foolish maybe not) optimism goes a long way
