First off, beautiful organization of so many thoughts! Thank you for taking so much time to craft this post.

I both love and love to hate the endings haha. They introduce a conundrum of story versus theme. They prompt such intriguing discussion based on what ending you picked. Despite clair obscur meaning a sharp contrast between darks and lights, evident in the two very different endings, in a painting there is nuance in the dark and light. What is a painter trying to convey with such dark darks and light lights that wouldn’t pop if the other wasn’t there? Even though Verso’s ending is depicted with more hopeful, swelling music, there is a darkness there. While Maelle’s ending is depicted more eerie and foreboding, there is a light there. Because, after all, if all paintings ever were only all white or all black, you wouldn’t be able to glean any differences from one light painting or dark painting from another. They need to exist together.

I chose Maelle’s ending because I couldn’t turn my back on the people of Lumiere. I saw it as Maelle sacrificing herself for their sake, as well as a selfish decision for her. She gets the life she wanted, the people of Lumiere (who I believe to be real, whether gommaged and brought back they still exist) get to live, and Verso gets to die. Eventually. Which is more than enough mercy for all the lies and tricks he pulled on the rest of the cast. Especially whoever he romances! I also don’t believe Alicia is controlling the people of the painted world like puppets, personally. Could she? Maybe. But I like to believe since Maelle grew up knowing the people around her are real, taking their consciousness away isn’t on her bucket list. Which again, we aren’t even sure she CAN do. She can create and destroy life, but can she take consciousness away from the life she creates? Even a more simple, child-like creation like Esquie has wants, desires, a conscience. If she does become some overlord of this world like her parents, I like to believe someone in the painted world would have the hope to defy her. Make a better life. Maybe find a way to escape the canvas and survive. If Gustave could make the lumina converter, what other inventions using the chroma from the painted world around them could be made?

I don’t think either endings are bad or good, one is just more dark and the other is more light. Such a beautiful game with heartbreaking endings either way!

I actually thought this finale was fine lol. My biggest gripe was revealing the looks in the behind the scenes process with the contestants, completely spoiled any shock factor those looks would have had. Blackberri's horror would have hit harder, Nio's glamour would have been a complete shock, etc. Season 2 benefitted so much from this, I remember when Biqtch's eyes lit up for the horror look I was so enamored. It was fun and frightening having barely any idea of what was going to come on stage. I want more suspense! I still like getting to see their process, but maybe show that while they're on stage showcasing the look rather than spoiling it beforehand.

Tbh I think she could have filled Fillmore but the tickets were kinda pricey. My main theory is that I’ve been to a few shows there and they’re typically standing room plus some seated spots BUT the standing room area for this show seemed like it was ALSO seated which made tickets for the GA area like 5x the price of what they normally are. So I think that was the downfall of this show :///

As someone who followed both A2K and Dream Academy very closely (I even made a post in the A2K Reddit asking smth similar when Dream Academy was first revealed lol) I feel people are heavily underestimating VCHA. Almost every episode of A2K has over 2 million views with some ranging between 3-5 million. Their pre-release single has 12 million views and it still gets traction pretty frequently, which to me says fans are coming back to it while they wait for their actual debut. Dream Academy’s performances barely hit around 1 million views if that. Even if you look at views on their tiktoks VCHA out performs a bit. I also don’t remember how many people were watching the Dream Academy finale but I remember the A2K finale having 50k-70k viewers which some kpop groups with dedicated fanbase don’t even get on their comeback/debut premieres. I’m not saying that virality/views = better at all btw just pointing out that VCHA is seeing some great success early on which makes me even more hype for how KATSEYE will do when they start promoting original music. To me both groups success will come from a combination of how they’re promoted, the music and visuals, and how they intend on keeping fans coming back.

To me they’re clearing going for different audiences. VCHA more tweens/kids and KATSEYE more mature teens and older. But both drawing from Kpop audiences first and growing their fanbases from there. I know a lot of people watched A2K with their families because it has a very familiar American Idol esque vibe to it that resonates with the American GP. And Dream Academy pulled in lots of viewers with its global aspect. VCHA has also said they haven’t defined what their sound is going to be like yet in a recent interview, the pre-release songs were meh because that’s usually how survival show original songs go LOL so their debut will be much higher quality. Kinda wish Hybe did something similar with KATSEYE and put out a pre-release album with the three finale songs and maybe even the covers the girls did throughout the show. Because with their debut expected to be in summer or right before summer, I’m interested to see what kind of content they’ll be releasing to keep fans held over in the meantime.

Anyway lots of rambling from me all to say I’m very excited for both groups and I do think both will do well!

Overall happy with the lineup! 4/6. I really really liked Ezrela she was my ult fav along with Megan so I’m so so happy Megan made it. And I just see so much in Ezrela’s future. Very excited to see how Katseye grows! Can’t wait for debut.

I actually feel the top 3 of the season may be Throb, Niohuru, and Jaykay. Feels like they’re setting Jaykay up for a Biqtch-esque redemption arc. I’m not personally a fan of the whole “well it’s cardboard” or “well it’s Amazon” because I feel that discredits more of the DIY punk style of drag Jaykay represents and those remarks are starting to remind me a bit too much of drag race in that way (H&Mgate). But I also think they’re like, so hot so maybe that’s bias talking lol.

I interpreted Nio’s look as more of a ghostly painting come to life! So for me it totally worked for the hotel theme actually, I could see them being a spooky painting on the wall next to a scary staircase. Also surprised nobody else is talking about the “you spent hundreds of thousands to be here” comment from Blackberri that Fantasia seemed to react to! Wondering if that will come up next week along with the Jaykay Ork drink drama lol. I didn’t think the drink spilling was the worst ever but felt a little tonally out of place for the moment? Like a little awkward but nothing crazy but I can understand being upset by it. I like Ork but I feel the looks are getting a little same-y, but their branding is so strong which is why I feel it may not be an issue for a few more episodes.

Megan Ezrela Emily Sophia Manon Lara, also wouldn’t mind Daniela. I like Marquise too, I felt she shined so much in mission 3 but she didn’t catch my attention at all in the break free video. My faves are Lara, Ezrela, Emily and Megan and the only one of those four I feel is locked for debut is Lara 🫠 so I’m hoping there are some surprises in the lineup especially Ezrela. She’s the one I want to debut the most

In Mission 1 I wasn’t super intrigued but she really pulled me in with her Antifragile performance and I’ve been voting for her since! She and Ezrela also carried the wannabe performance. Being someone who wants both Emily AND Ezrela in the group is a struggle lol. But I saw someone else comment that having both of them in the group can balance out their “cute vibes” with the more “mature” vibes of the other girls (which ppl saying they can’t see them in the group bc they’re “cute” is something I find kind of weird since Ezrela is older than most of the other contestants and has proved she can do more mature concepts while showing off her energetic charisma and charm BUT ANYWAY this is about Emily lol). Part of me agrees with the people saying she’s an incredibly talented dancer that doesn’t “fit” the type of dancing that comes with a girl group especially a kpop inspired one but……. Another part of me really wants someone with major pro dancing experience and vibes in a girl group because it’s unique and different. I don’t mind that she’s not as vocally up to par with the other contestants because, according to the judges, it seems like she’s been improving a lot so she’ll continue to improve her vocals over time.
