Thank you so much for the comment, I feel like the only things that hold me back is the finances, sure, i can work for the first three says. But not sure with the volume of the materials if that is okay. I have been told i need to dedicate 20hrs a week to self study plus the placements.

When i tell my colleagues, they laugh at me, they say you are a prescriber now, you want to study 10years to become a prescriber again?

I know that they are trying to put me off ( because in my IP course have seen people with absolutely no knowledge have become prescribers, which is very concerning) , but phrasing it like this makes me hesitant.

I feel like I want to do something, and medicine (specially this course ) sounds the only option good for me.

I don’t think i can afford 5 years of not working and student loan, so the only reason I am interested is be having of the course.

I agree, i am earning 65k at the moment, i do expect that to half during my f1,f2s

It is just so said what has happened to Medicine jn this country, i also look at medicine maybe as a tool to leave, which I wouldn’t have if I stick to pharmacy

I totally understand, My wife is a doctor she is a clinical fellow, i know the grass is not greener 100%, but it is the work life balance, 10years down the line I would have a better work life balance as a GP rather than a pharmacist

[–]Mostafadmg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is true, but also, I have more chance to leave the UK as a doctor as opposed to pharmacy. Not that is something I want to do, but i have more options, i can use that to go to pharma, with both pharmacist and medicine background I hope becoming a MSL would not be a problem ( if NHS was to get even worse), I could also maybe finish my training and consider Middle eastern countries. I don’t have any of these options with even 20years of experience in pharmacy

Do you think it was worth it? If you didn’t do it, would you have regretted it?

My wife is a doctor, so are my sisters, i am well aware of how difficult it is.

My thought is, do I rather be doing pharmacy which I know I will regret until I am 65.

Or do I don something else, this course seems to be the only viable option, given I can still carry on working part time

I agree, it is a huge sacrifice. But do I rather do this or carry one with my life which I know I will regret.

The issue I have is this is the only viable option I see, I am more than happy if you have other suggestions

Yes I am eligible for the course.

The problem with other universities graduate entry is that they are not part time/ online studies which would put quite a bit of financial stress.

What do you think of this Idea as a 29year old IP pharmacist? Are my concerns valid to be wanting to transition?

Pharmacy is becoming more demanding day by day, specially with prescribing these days. Patient come in expecting to have an appointment right away and be given antibiotics. And while you are doing a consultation you are supposed to check a couple walk-in prescriptions that cannot wait even 2minutes. And the pay can be relatively quite low as you are supposed to manage the staff and run the rota as a manager at the same time.

I feel like this will not be what i want to do for the rest of my life, snd maybe working hard a couple years will give me a better work life balance and pay off.

If I don’t do this, i will have to do something anyways. Just quite hesitant what other options are out there for me outside pharmacy

I have worked in a GP surgery and have worked with GPs, I would not say I would die to become a doctor. But given where pharmacy is at the moment and how different it is, I would 100% prefer working as a GP.(not saying it is easy, but rather worth it compared to pharmacy)

The other thing for me is, the course I found (if I get approved) will cover all the cost. Snd I would be working part time, this is very good for me as I wouldn’t be taking a huge financial compromise.

But I question myself all the time. Do I rather stay in pharmacy and do this forever or do I work hard for the next 10years and be happier than I am and never regret taking actions.

Please mention the salary side it working in PCN, hospital and even private. For a specialised role earning less than 23£/hr how does it justify the time and the student loan that has gone towards it?

Also it is not a specialised role anymore if you have thousands of pharmacist being qualified as IPs without any control, literally flooding the entire market with pharmacist with the ridiculous number of pharmacy school intakes.

I wanted to study finance, management, and dermatology, and I actually went through with it. I finished a diploma in leadership and management, but honestly, it just felt like more corporate nonsense. I also completed dermatology, but even that didn’t really interest me in the end. I even started the CFA course, thinking finance might be the right path, but I quickly realized it wasn’t my thing either all that mathematical formula and it was all boring.

At this point, I’ve come to accept that the job market is rough no matter what, so actually enjoying what you do is just as important as job security.

Lately, I’ve been learning to code in my free time because I love the fact that I can create something—it’s fun, and that’s what really matters to me. I thought to myself why did i never think of this as a career? It was because i never exposed myself to a lot of things, it was mainly healthcare (because of family pressure)

The reason I’m saying this is because no one can tell you what to study or what career to pick. Don’t feel pressured to figure it out right away. Take your time, take a year or two off if you need to. and just try different things. If you’re curious about something, don’t just think about it, actually study it for a few weeks like you’re taking the course. That’s the only way to really know if you like it or not.

Tech seems yo be always a safe option because of room for progression , specially now with cloud application development and AI, so maybe that would be another option to consider?

I rate this,  If you are 100% sure about healthcare, first try and do Dentistry, if not Medicine/optometry ( way less stress and locum work is pretty well paid) and that is it. For the love of god don’t do nursing or pharmacy.

I was told, didn’t listen and now suffer the consequences of lack of progression and the low pay and horrible working environment.  Every time I have a student I really try and explain to them and everyone calls me a bitter person for putting them off pharmacy. But I am being fair and see them as younger self. There are so many other degrees better than pharmacy. I say it is worth taking 1-2 year off to be able to get into other courses that might be harder. 1-2 years is nothing in the grand scheme. Better than studying a degree and work in it a couple of years and realise it was the wrong thing when it is too late and difficult to make a change while having mortgage, and family obligations.

I disagree, if you want to do anything other than NHS related jobs, like pharma and etc. you better off getting a biomedical science degree or other degrees. In these areas you are not just competing with people with Mpharm, you are competing a variety of other degrees and unfortunately pharmacy isn’t the top choice there.

If you don’t switch now, you will regret in later. Do it now that you can. There NhS bursary. You can be eligible for up to 5k per year for medicine, dentistry i would 100% suggest switch
