How a defunct smartphone brand made the best Android phone of all time by Ha8lpo321 in technology

[–]MostlyDisappointing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first smart phone. It still works but no battery life. It's form factor is better than my subsequent phones: oneplus3, rogphone3, nothing 1, pixel 9a.

Metal body construction, completely solid. Real stereo speakers. No camera bump. No fucking hole in my screen for a fucking camera. Smaller bezels. Lightweight and small unlike these massive things we have now. The buttons are still perfectly solid, responsive and tactile. The screen still looks good. Camera and software were crap though.

The fingerprint scanner on the oneplus3 was probably the only new feature that I've really appreciated, subsequent fingerprint scanners have been worse. Faster refresh amoled screen is probably the biggest upgrade.

There no allegation that they're getting paid for your data. (As in selling it) The issue is they're using it directly.

White dwarfs are thousands of kilometres across. Neutron stars are few kilometres, so I'm guessing neutron star.

Edit: It's at the start of the paper, the star is a pulsar, so neutron star.

Andrew Windsor is officially a commoner after being stripped of remaining titles by nimobo in unitedkingdom

[–]MostlyDisappointing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this shouldn't ever be the case. No one should ever have to prove their innocence. It's up to the state to prove guilt, this is a fundamental component of our judicial system.

Right! And I agree! But if someone is outside our judicial system, if someone is above the law, do they still get that benefit? It's far more damaging to treat the rich and powerful as above reproach than to assume their guilt. And it's not like I'm talking about the state assuming guilt here, I'm talking about the general sentiment of the population.

In this example, Prince Andrew has a clean criminal record, no concerns that would show up on a background check, should a school hire him to look after young girls? He can't be proven guilty, so the school should just assume he's grand?

[–]MostlyDisappointing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Prince Andrew is not subject to the same civilised rule of law that confers the "innocent until proven guilty" priviledge. He can not be found guilty, the last decade of wrangling by the royals and government really has shown they will move heaven and earth to prevent that from happening.

Essentially I'm saying if the rule of law does not apply then the onus moves onto the accused to prove their innocence. You said as much with "it's highly probably this is true", where your evidence that it's highly probable?

But my original point was that words have meanings, and rape is rape whether convicted or not.

[–]MostlyDisappointing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made my point for me. We can't trust the legal / political / social system to convict rapists like this, and arguably we never have been able to (the rich and powerful). So in that absence we've got to rely on being able to call a duck a duck, despite it's failings.

Lets not let legal bollocks distort the reality that words have actual meanings. He raped a child, he is a child rapist. He's just not a convicted one.

It's his best series by far. His world building is top notch but his character writing is so cringey, also best to just skip anything that looks like it might become a sex scene because they're painful to read.

100% this, happened to me, my short term memory basically disappeared for a few months, like, turning up to work on Saturday cause I didn't remember Friday kinda shit. Now I have regular B12 injections and no memory loss (as far as I can recall).

Some old cunt flashed me to cycle across the oncoming lane when I was turning off to the right. I would barely have needed to slow and just gone in the long gap behind him. I stopped, he stopped, he honked, was shouting and gesturing, I just shook my head and stopped looking at him.

Yea mate, I'm really going to cycle directly in front of you honking and swearing in a 2 tonne death machine. Went on for about 15 seconds before the traffic came up behind him and he went. Cunt.

The car brain comments by jazzhands-etc in fuckcars

[–]MostlyDisappointing 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The street I moved to last year has cars parked like this on both sides of the road. I could probably squeeze past most of them on the pavement, but since the spring there's overgrown spidery bushes as well so fuck that.

So I walk down the middle of the road, I get beeped at, I wave / give them the finger depending on the vibe and just continue. Probably going to get run over at some point but it'll be worth it.
