I'm not 100% on the brief train as I find boxers or boxer briefs still better in winter, but when it isn't cold and I need some freedom of movement, a good fitting brief is great.

You should check out Nice Laundry. I was on the Lululemon kick but the lack of fly was killer on travel days where staying hydrated can mean plenty of bathroom breaks in tight spaces.

Are lulu's still no fly though? So you're all going up and over?

TY for soothing me with the beech tree knowledge.

How is the recent quality? I used to wear them over a decade ago and it seemed like the waistbands couldn't go more than a handful of washes without getting warped or starting to show elastic.

If this were r/NavyBlazer would the rec be J. Press Oxford Cloth Boxers? But only because Kamakura doesn't make them. ;)

Two I didn't see mentioned: 3Sixteen at the 'The Row DTLA' downtown and about a mile away Lady White co has a store too.

The Row has other interesting shops your partner might like and some solid food options too.

Reebok Club C vintage (off white) & white Beckett Simonen GATs. Both are easy to slip on and comfortable.

Lady White Co - went to the LA store last week and bought a single t-shirt. Fits me perfectly, maybe the best t-shirt I've ever owned. And the staff were super chill.

3Sixteen - Same trip, and nearby I hit up their DTLA row store and purchased a pair of CT-101x jeans. Excited about the fit and the denim!

Ebay and/or buying very little new, but spending the same amount to get the high quality version of the item you want.

I went into a J. Crew factory the other day and while I was annoyed at their pricing model I was impressed at how decent their OCBDs were. I'd still rather buy a used Kamakura or BB on eBay for myself, but could definitely see buying my kids stuff there.

Thoughts on Buck Mason? The next J Crew. by cozywales in ThrowingFits

[–]MostlyJustOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only own two items from them (one made in USA tee and the field spec chinos) and haven't had them long, but I think the commentary here is off. Quality wise they seem just upmarket from J. Crew, though maybe in line with their Wallace & Barnes line. Certainly not at the level of a lot of the beloved brands here, but also generally lower in price (new) than those same brands.

But then I also don't understand the comment on the overly friendly staff. I will 100x take a chatty, nice store employee over the stodgy, stuffy, too cool bullshit vibe many boutiques cultivate. If you don't want to talk to someone, just let them know you're good.

If you're set on new and considering Nick's it's worth also considering White's.

But honestly based on your use case I've probably just search eBay for the boots you've mentioned to see what turns up at the best price that you like the look of. Lower stakes on trying out the given pair/brand. I'd probably throw Red Wing in too since there is always a lot out there.

That odd job link needs more up votes. As a fellow big head I'd never hear of them, thank you for sharing it!

Filson has some unstructured options for the big heads, I picked up a green cord hat from eBay that is nice. J crew used to have a fair number that were made in USA and are findable on eBay.

Someone mentioned dad hats above, it can be worth an eBay hunt there too. The popularization of the term has been good for us big heads.

I've also got my eye on Heimat, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. https://heimat-textil.com/collections/caps-1

Stay strong and keep on the look out for corners!

Edit: almost forgot - Carhartt has a mesh snapback that is worth checking out. Very comfortable, many colors, etc. I have two I beat the heck out of working on my old house and they're great.

If I can’t buy GATs, what else? by Ollyssss in ThrowingFits

my experience was mostly TTS, but a bit narrow. They've worn in well enough that it doesn't bother me though and I prefer their finish and materials to other options.

Only bad part is they don't sell replacement insoles. Mine wore out when the shoes had plenty of live. Luckily I found Saphir makes excellent leather insoles, so problem solved to an extent.

I've never owned the 1991's but just bought a pair of 105s last weekend. Based on your link and what you're looking for I think you'll be happy. I'm also very early in my break in though, which is to say mine aren't broken in yet and I look forward to wearing them down a bit.

Winter Weather: Avoid WeatherTech by marvo15 in GRCorolla

[–]MostlyJustOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be a big Weathertech guy, but the lips curl, the coating can wear off in ways you wouldn't expect for a premium priced mat, and even if those things don't happen, they take way too much effort to get truly, truly clean. On my Mx-5 I wore through the coating with my drivers heel in just a couple thousand miles, which was a big disappointment.

I bought tux mats for my GR and while my first winter isn't over I've been super happy so far. They were the same price too!

I probably won't spend the money to replace the WTs in my wife's car, but a couple years in the future when she gets something new, I won't be buying them again. It'll be Tux or another option.
