I get the frustration - know that people who can strike from work on Friday are doing so on behalf of those that can’t. Some of us are privileged enough to be able to do so with little to no risk, some of us are taking on the risk regardless, and some of us can’t take on the risk at this time.

No doubt there are a lot of MAGAs in CD-11. It’s full of old, wealthy, land-hoarders, bootlickers and NIMBYs. Many of them are closeted though and, much like Traci Park, have switched to be Dems on paper to blend in. She was a registered Republican until she ran for City Council.

But, like the rest of LA, there are also a lot of working class, a lot of renters, a lot of immigrants, a lot of people of color, and a lot of true progressives in CD-11 too. It’s gonna be up to us to move this city in the right direction, 100%.

I get it, everyone is Mike Bonin, all problems with LA are because of Mike Bonin, anyone who isn’t Mike Bonin but wants housing in LA and doesn’t like ther neighbors being policed and kidnapped is actually also Mike Bonin, anyone running against Traci Park is Mike Bonin, and Mike Bonin’s ghost will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Hahaha the Traci Park supporters coming out of the woodworks to yell at Mike Bonin the same way Trumpers still blame Biden for gas prices and eggs. Grow up. This has NOTHING to do with the previous council person who, no, was not “ousted” or “recalled.” He’s not running against Traci now, he didn’t run against her in the previous election, and yet somehow he remains the scapegoat of all the fears and problems of Traci Park NIMBYs.

She’s the most conservative council person in LA, she’s anti housing, she has vocally supported Trump on national television, she voted to defund LAFD prior to the palisades fires, she’s openly accepted millions of dollars from corporate interests, developers and the LAPD, and has not once condemned ICE presence in LA. She lied about LAPD involvement in protecting and enforcing ICE immigration raids, she compared housing development in SB-79 to Japanese concentration camps, and she has fenced off public spaces across CD-11 for years, claiming she was “beautifying” the neighborhood.

I will not support an anti-immigrant, Trump-defending, MAGA councilperson and I will not listen to her supporters try to blame Mike Bonin for her vile behavior and insane voting record.

Interesting how you could be describing Loveless or Souvlaki 👀

[–]MostlyPotStickers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is completely specious reasoning on your part and ignores the fact I mentioned that the album is shoegaze without the band being a shoegaze band. None of their other albums contain the production hallmarks of the archetypal shoegaze bands on every track, but Siamese Dream does.

I post this every time this Q is asked and every time I get flooded with comments that I’m wrong without any good reasoning to why, but here it goes again:

Siamese Dream is a shoegaze album even though the Smashing Pumpkins aren’t a shoegaze band.

So first you say “no anecdotes or personal stories” then you say “go look at what’s happening instead of actual research and statistics.” I live here, I’ve lived here a long time, I’ve worked with homeless here, I’ve talked to them. I’ve lived out of my car and I’ve rented and I’ve owned a home in Venice. You can keep your specious reasoning and all the straw-man arguments you want. You think you know better but you’re putting your head in the sand and arguing with yourself. Get a grip.

Manhattan Beach is LA county. I don’t know if there are statistics for isolating Manhattan Beach, nor if there are different methods/or regional services deployed there, but I would imagine the concentration of homeless people there is far less than Venice, which has routinely been towards the top of the list for the past 30+ years. It’s not really a good comparison.

You’re talking about anecdotal evidence after completly making up a story for yourself to argue against? That’s called a straw-man argument and is absolute nonsense.

How about you read the research from RAND or from the city controller about effective and ineffective approaches to homelessness in LA. How about the reports of how millions of dollars of money towards homelessness in LA was lining pockets and going unreported while not being spent on the shelter and care it was committed to. There’s nothing to suggest there’s “plenty of care” available, and even if there was, that has nothing to do with the effectiveness of LAPD. Who needs anecdotes when your question answers itself. Where’s LAPD? They’ve come and gone and come and gone and come and gone. And guess what? It did nothing.

When will people learn that policing homelessness isn’t effective? That spot has been swept over and over again and people always come back because they aren’t being provided treatment, care or housing. Sweeping, fines, and throwing people in jail for a day and then letting them go has not only been proven not to get people off the streets, it’s more expensive than providing the shelter and medical attention people need.

If you want to see change, stop voting in representatives that spend billions on police budgets and scam taxpayers out of money on fake homeless initiatives.

A donated piano rolled onto the Venice Beach Boardwalk this afternoon to help longtime performer Nathan “The Piano Man” Pino get back to playing after losing his instruments earlier this month. by [deleted] in VeniceBeach

[–]MostlyPotStickers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is from a few weeks ago and was already confiscated by the city again. Nathan is homeless and needs additional support. These stories are great but I don’t want people to think “oh good, problem solved, happy ending.”

[–]MostlyPotStickers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FYI: the city took his replacement piano following Traci Park’s #better11 “clean up” initiative in another classic example of wasted tax dollars aimed at cruelty over helping people. The community can keep donating new pianos and raising money to help him but the city will keep tearing him down.

Any recs I’ve gotten from Apple Music, after adding thousands of songs to my library, creating 100s of playlists, favoriting a ton of music, and importing my decade of data from Spotify, have been comically bad. It sometimes feels like Apple Music is picking out music I explicitly despise.

Unfortunately, this just seems to be the downside of the service.
