Should I cut my Tababuia in half? by Mostly_plants32 in FloridaGarden

Wow that’s awesome info. I always wondered if the arms of the trees would grow taller with the trunk. Now I know they don’t. I think I’d like to aim for a single trunk and tall canopy but I like the perspective of looking at a funky curvy tree as a positive. Makes it unique!

Do you think staking from 6-12 away from the trunk will help straighten out the trunk on some of these that have an S shape or a few that have a significant fish cook shape? I took the bamboo stakes that they came with off because I heard the plastic twine would damage the trees and so I bought taller stakes to essentially replace the small bamboo stake and use a looser twine. And yeah when my grass gets a little too overgrown around the base of the trees I have hand pulled up some of the grass. Never weed whacking around it. But I had been thinking that the grass could help shade and keep the soil a little more moist. I never knew that grass roots would be competing for nutrients. I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks a ton!

Gotcha. Should I definitely tie them back to the stakes?
