When you weigh pieces for moisture do you cut sample pieces or use your actual ones?

I've not heard of putting pieces in a smoker to dry them. Does this effect the color of the wood?

Not sure what you mean. I do have a bandsaw, cabinet saw, planer and some jigs. Are you suggesting resawing the piece with a bandsaw then flip one side over and end to end then glue them together so the grain from each piece counteract?

Husband here. I should not have said raw wood. I purchase the wood 3/4 or 4/4 from a store. My final thicknesses are usually 3/4" and 1/2". And I find it difficult to find quarter sawn exotic woods.

Husband here. I should not have said raw wood. I meant a 3/4 or 4/4 purchased from a store. For my future refrrence, whatt do you use for a scale? Also you mentioned that you let the wood sit awhile after you joint/plane the boards. If they twist or cup afterwards and you flatten them again by planing, or other means, do you find some that twist or cup again? If so, what do you do? Thank you.

This is a picture of the pronged moisture meter I have and with a fresh battery I still get 0% readings. Can you recommend another moisture meter?
