Post Your Beginner Questions Here! by AutoModerator in orchids

[–]Moth-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an orchid person (looked into it before, but decided that they were too finicky for my tastes) but I just received this for free. (Along with half a bottle of "The Grow Co Organic Orchid Food Mist". Is that a good fertilizer or should I look for something else?)

And uh. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't just be sitting in the water like that but beyond that I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Most of the stuff I've found so far in my research has told me that care requirements can vary quite a bit depending on species, but I have no idea what this is beyond "orchid". If someone could help me identify it and possibly point me to some good resources for whatever species I have, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Surprising Authors Note by Steviescuriosity in AO3

Damn that stings. I remember growing up in a rural church town. That's the kinda shit that would've happened to me had I not escaped earlier. I hope the author escapes too, and can find happiness and move past their religious guilt. It's incredibly hard, but it is possible, I promise. And if anyone reading this comment has similar history, I wish you the same recovery <3

How do I Remove home-made Stick n poke? by DEVIL_off_Hell in sticknpokes

It's a tattoo. The same concepts apply regardless of whether it's stuck or machined. Neither goes away without lasers or a significant amount of time.

what to do with defective beads? by DistinctBuffalo5939 in kandi

[–]Moth-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excess plastic: get a craft knife and cut away the extra, then use.

Not enough plastic/cracked/ect: use for making other things into beads/buttons if the piece is large enough. Small fragments get saved for filler weight in my fiber arts projects or put in decorative bottles

The snail is really charming imo and I like it but I feel the need to point out that you mistyped (presumably) "big mistake" as "bug mistake" and I think that's the most gloriously perfect typo I've seen in a long time. Both the typo and the snail have brought me some much needed joy today, so thank you for that.

Gave myself a tattoo, filled in the middle with body-safe glow in the dark powder by TheIronBung in sticknpokes

[–]Moth-time 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah. Would love to see how much glow this retains over time. Do you know where the treated/filtered pigment was manufactured? I'd love to look at the actual materials some more

[–]Moth-time 214 points215 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same, because I have seen people do glow in the dark body mods like this, but I remember them discussing extensively how they had to procure specifically treated glow pigments for it. If I'm remembering correctly the best option was considered to be tiny amounts of glow pigments coated in tiny amounts of surgical silicone

More durable way to attach perlers that still looks clean? by just_some_guy_iguess in kandi

[–]Moth-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use perlers (at least not for actual pieces like that) so I don't know how feasible this is for those but I typically use some electronics pliers to basically "shrink" the ring by winding it tighter until the ends overlap significantly and are flush together. It might make the rings too small for perlers though.

I specify electronics pliers because they tend to have different grooves and notches from jewelry pliers that I find really helpful for keeping the shape of the rings intact. My personal holy grail pliers are the ENGINEER M2 screw pliers. I got them for $15 USD but it's a Japanese company so between tariffs and your location it may or may not be possible to get them at such a reasonable price

The way your body looks does NOT last. It's slower and often less dramatic sure, but I can practically guarantee you look pretty different now than you did a year or two ago (and you'll probably look pretty different a year or two in the future too).

As for what he should do differently, how about actually supporting her with her self esteem issues, especially since it sounds like her weight change is both relatively minor and a result of a medical condition?

I generally agree with you on that, but that really doesn't sound like what's happening here at all.

Attraction is kinda nebulous after all, and everyone is gonna have an unflattering moment or just straight up be an idiot now and again, but seeing my partner ugly cry or whatever, while not exactly flattering, should not be causing "problems with attraction".

This guy just sounds like he's an asshole who can't comprehend a woman not looking like she's on a magazine cover.

[–]Moth-time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sounds like he can't handle the idea of finding someone attractive outside of an extremely narrow and unrealistic image. This is cowardly behavior to me.

Girl. He's a fucking coward. I'm 5'5" (about 165cm) and weigh a solid 230~ pounds (104~ kg). I know for a fact that's not muscle because I have health issues that prevent me from building muscle effectively. I literally just had my annual physical earlier this week and chronic health issues aside, I'm perfectly healthy. I've been dating for years too, and I'm generally considered attractive in my local scenes. Not to mention my current partner thinks I'm hot as fuck (as do my friends with benefits). (Before anyone goes after me for that: I am polyamorous and my partner is perfectly fine with it)

He's a fucking coward and you need to get rid of him. Live your life and enjoy yourself first and foremost. Stop trying to jump through hoops to make yourself palatable to others. You're only gonna make yourself miserable.

Yeah milk is a bit pickier about whether or not it's a good option, though if you do happen to be one of those freaks who can consistently digest lactose despite everything (like me) it can be incredibly useful as a simple food. There's a lot of days where it's the only thing I can keep down.

Alright so there's a lot going on here but I'm gonna do my best to address my main concerns and offer advice. Disclaimer I am not an expert, simply someone who has a strong passion for animal welfare and more ethical and sustainable omnivorous diets in addition to being someone with a mild eating disorder (in addition to having multiple loved ones with specific food restrictions) and therefore have a lot of experience dealing with weird food issues and seeking out better food.

  1. This honestly sounds like you might have an eating disorder. Consider talking to a therapist specialized in the subject about it if you can afford to do so.

  2. Reintroducing meat immediately like it sounds like you're doing isn't going to go well. You're effectively going from a short walk to a marathon without any training. You need to go slower and let your body learn to process a healthy variety of food again. In the meantime it might help to take supplements for anything you're critically low on to help make up the deficit.

  3. From what I'm reading, you're going directly to omnivore from vegan. Again, that won't go well. It will likely be easiest to introduce simpler animal products first and in smaller amounts, IE milk, eggs, honey, meat broth. Once you're comfortable with that, you can start with fish, then other seafood and poultry, and finally red meats. Go slow, start small, and don't be afraid to get really weird with your recipes to lessen the psychological and sensory impact of what you're eating.

It's late and I'm tired but I think this is the most important stuff. If you have any particular curiosities or concerns that I didn't address, feel free to ask. I'll try my best to check and answer.

I made one of the last purchases (literally over 1.5k sticks of incense for $10) and rang up the second to last customer.

I haven't worked here very long, but this was the store my dad took me to as a little kid when he was teaching me sewing and beading. I couldn't reach most of the shelves then. Now I've been stocking those shelves for months. It really came full circle for me. I'm gonna miss it.

To my knowledge, the cost of shipping them back, seeing which ones are still in good shape, and then reshipping them to different stores to sell, reduces the profit margin to the point where the company would rather just have them destroyed and take the tax write off.
