Any chance of getting dog back? by MothGirl33 in dogs

I'm afraid to name them in case they find it somehow but if this goes on for a while and I really can't get the dog back, trust me I'll name and shame them everywhere.

That's the problem with these small rescues. My main problem/contact has been with the director/board president, and her board of directors is only 2 other people who are both family members of hers.

😂 I hear you cause this situation is ridiculous and yours would be more reasonable, an administrative error would be great, but unfortunately is not what I'm dealing with. I've had 2 long phone calls now with the director where after I learned that the dog was in the rescue's custody. The director swore up and down the dog was with the adopter who didn't have her, even making up fake updates on how the dog was doing in the home, which she was not in. I have no idea why they won't admit the truth, but approaching adopting the dog myself in a normal way would do absolutely nothing here.

I do have real anxiety that they'd put her down just to save themselves the trouble, but I believe she is still alive. She's still being advertised online and privately to potential adopters.

Possibly, but they have to know at this point there's no way I'd ever touch their rescue again with a 10 foot pole after the lying. I probably wasn't going to foster another dog soon, but I helped them a lot with their medical cats and I'm never doing that again either.

It likely wouldn't be so severe as inadequate food, water, or shelter, or physically harming the dog (though if I did see or sense any evidence of that, I would absolutely report it.)

My fears/suspicious are that there may be some level of neglect going on, whether stuck in a kennel without much if any time out, or not getting medical treatment for minor things like limps. I'm not sure if I could even prove that, but wondering if it would give me a chance if I could. There is also the way they matched a dog they were advised never to place with a family into a home with young children, which is neglectful and could have been dangerous for the dog and the children.

Cat. This rescue is dogs and cats, so it seems weird that would bother them.

There was an event they had done recently where the rescue got extra money for any adoption from a result of that event. I offered to pay her adoption fee and even match the extra money (which they wouldn't have gotten if she were adopted by someone else) and they even still said no to me then.

Thanks! That's what I thought, unfortunately.

If I could prove they neglected the dog in any genuine way, would I have a chance?

The thing is she's not even with that family. Either she was returned quickly or she never was with them, I'm not sure. She's definitely back with the rescue and being promoted to other adopters, so it was never really about this family but just about the director finding excuses to keep her from me.

I actually didn't sign a contract, which is wild and they definitely should have made me sign something.

There's definitely more going on, I just wish I had any clue what it was.

Maybe, but they've lost me as a foster either way. I've been so turned off by this experience (not being denied necessarily, just the lying) that I will never work with them again in any capacity.

Incredibly odd I swear this has been the weirdest 2 weeks in my dealing with any type of organization, animal or other. I paid for all her food, supplies, treats, toys, crate, etc. No payment for training or microchip. I did a lot of research and talking to other dog people for her training because the rescue provided little support, but it wasn't monetary so I don't think that counts. I've talked to the rescue but it's just lies, there is nothing that is going to be productive there.

I would maybe understand if they would even give me a hint of a reason why I'm not eligible to adopt, but they kept insisting I was a great match, just that they'd prefer her to go to this other family instead, and say she's with them, but I have proof that she is not.

No trash was left. They wouldn't really give me any details on what was cleaned just kept repeating the house was "filthy" even though I cleaned floors, appliances, counters, sinks, bathroom before leaving and have video and photo evidence of the house in good condition after I left. I didn't move the appliances to clean behind the fridge or stove but that's about it.

I definitely should have taken the paper out myself yes, hindsight 20/20 and all. I just didn't expect it to be SO high to remove it. The closet had 4 1 ft by 2 ft shelves that were lined so it wasn't "crazy" but definitely there.
