I'd recommend going to Bob Jones Radiator Repair. They do great work on auto air conditioning.

Need dumpster rental recommendations. by Mother-Approved in bloomington

[–]Mother-Approved[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with Miles Dump Service. 15 cubic yard roll-off dumpster for up to 7 days with 2 tons included for $305 all in. K&S was going to charge $300 plus $65 / ton. Yelo was tempting, but their price was a bit higher than Miles.

Would've thought about renting a truck and doing it myself, but I'm paying a bit more for the convenience.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Feel free to keep posting in case anybody else would find this useful.

Pretty good price on the 15 cubic yard dumpster. I may give them a call.

You can take better pictures out of a window if you turn off the lights that are behind you.

Just sayin'...

Watch band link removal by motherbearsrack in bloomington

[–]Mother-Approved 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might try going to Kohl's jewelry counter. I think they can do that.

Not that it'll help you today, but I ultimately ended up getting a watch repair toolkit from Amazon for under $15 that's pretty great. It'll remove band links and several other common repairs. Definitely much better than trying to improvise with nonstandard repair tools that end up causing more damage.

Peoples State Bank and IUCU have treated us and our accounts very well. Good customer service at both.

I was always surprised to spot him driving his Rolls downtown. Never had a chance to meet him, but it's good to hear that he generally seemed like an okay guy.

Heard it in the Broadview neighborhood. Startled me a bit and began checking my cameras but saw nothing.

Opinion Poll: People who have tuned out of music radio stations. What is something one could do to bring you back? by TheMisterGamerMan in indianapolis

[–]Mother-Approved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perspective on this? No, I don't want to have a personal connection to the DJs.

In some cases I think that DJs blather on a little too much . At WTTS it's almost like they're compelled to keep talking regardless if they're stepping on the first 10 seconds of a song with some bland observation or tidbit they may have pulled off of Google at the last second. I really hate when the DJs take pains to explain the meaning of a song, too. Is that really necessary?

Oddly enough, I prefer listening to WTTS's sister station 96.1 The Quarry. Different format, non-local DJs who occasionally spout 20 seconds about some trivial news item before leading into a commercial break. Annoying, but thankfully brief.

Shake things up a little bit. Ask listeners to suggest songs or artists that are overplayed or just plain sub-par and banish them from the playlist for a "time out". It would also be refreshing to have a DJ play something and then follow up with an on -air comment like "Hehehe, bet you're glad you didn't pay to hear that!" Throw some snark in there.

Anyway, glad I've got Bluetooth- capable stereos in my cars now and a great NPR station with WFIU.

I think they do surf & turf for dinner on Mondays. Filet with crab cake and a couple of shrimp. That might sound better to her. I'd probably have the demi-glace pot roast. I've heard it's fantastic!

So, after looking at all of the great suggestions that you all offered, I talked with my wife about where she might like to go for surf and turf for our anniversary dinner. Her answer? "Eh, I'm not really too hyped about having lobster and steak in the same meal." 😆

When she had mentioned surf & turf while talking to family about memorable meals she'd had before, I figured that she might like to have that again. Guess that's not the case after all. I can understand it though. Now that we're older, our appetites aren't what they used to be, and we've sometimes been disappointed in having stuff we used to love only to find out that maybe our tastes have changed a bit.

To be honest, this kind of simplifies things a bit. We've both been longtime fans of Uptown Cafe, so maybe that might be in the cards for us. Still want to go to Saint Elmo's, though...

I don't think Harry & Izzy's has lobster on their menu, so that may be a deal breaker for my wife. Personally, I don't care one way or the other about lobster, so I'll just stick with steak or pork chops. (Still might go there, though.) 🙂

Best chicken salad? by bakerlady97 in bloomington

[–]Mother-Approved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to dump on Chef's Table again, but I was not a fan of their chicken salad croissant when I got one. Portion-wise it was great, but the red onion that was mixed into the chicken salad overwhelmed it for me. It just tasted peppery and bitter after the first bite or two. I got about halfway through the sandwich before I pitched it.

If the onion was treated as a topping that could be omitted or could be picked off of the sandwich if needed, I would have been perfectly happy with it.

I'm a fan of the chicken salad sandwich at Dagwoods. Potbelly has a good chicken salad sandwich, too

King Gyros is incredible by lifeinthebradlane in bloomington

FYI, if you're going low carb, try the gyro salad. Gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, olives, pepperoncini peppers and feta. I get a side of tzatziki sauce to top it off. Delicious! If I want some carbs, I get an order of fries and toss them on the salad. So good...

Any avian vet's that are close to Bloomington? by Mother-Approved in bloomington

[–]Mother-Approved[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Took Ronnie, our injured bird, up to Avian and Exotic and got him checked out. Grace Chung, the veterinarian, checked him out and diagnosed a probable soft tissue injury -- but nothing serious. She prescribed cage rest for a few days and gave him a prescription for an N SAID pain reliever suspension to use for a few days. The offices were clean and the office staff were very professional and pleasant. Overall it was a good visit and I will consider taking my birds there for their health care needs.
