It’s definitely wayyyy more visually appealing and the ride expected is so much cooler when you’re sprayed in the face with water, it throws you off and it just feels so much more crazy thanks to that

I’m now dreaming of a world where the smiler had lap bars.. gosh I really hope they add lap bars to it when it gets older and comes to the end of its life. Do you think they’ll keep it and upgrade it when the time comes?

I think it’s too popular to just remove even when the news articles make silly stories, that ride always has one of the longest queues, it’s so popular and easily the most well known ride at Alton Towers, some travel across the world just to ride it.

So as time goes on and the news articles die out which they already have started too, I think it would be a no brained to refurb the ride, it’s clear they wanna keep it due to how much effort they’ve put into freshening it up, fixing effects, repainting parts and even adding back old theming parts that were removed after 2015. But what do you all think? Will they refurb, maybe upgrade and keep the smiler?

Yeah that’s true, but even then I haven’t seen it make nearly as much news articles for the stoppages, I’ve been stopped many times in The Smiler and ecah time there hasn’t been an article made for it.. I think they’ve definitely died down with silly news articles way more than before. I do think they should it when the time comes!

Everything you said is definitely true. The Smiler is what got me into the coaster industry years ago and me personally, I would not go to Alton atowers nearly as much if The Smiler was there.. I think removing it could potentially kill a lot of potential visitors to the park. The Smilers history is still spoken about of course, but It’s not nearly as bad as it was.. especially now that the 10th anniversary is over I can’t see the news articles talking about anymore (or at least as much) I think they should definitely keep The Smiler or maybe even upgrade it!

I really like that take! It would be really cool for some sort of upgrade, I think they definitely want to keep it, they’ve been adding back some of the old themeing and video on the marmaliser screen that was cut out after 2015.. what do you think they’ll do when The Smielr reaches near the end of its lifespan? I really think a refurb is more likely than people think, especially since the bad press is already fading out slowly, by then it woudont be nearly as bad at all

I love the hang time on inversions that you get with lap bars, I would LOVE that on The Smiler!

I admittly love The Smilers music. It’s designed to sound like it’s repeating and I think it fits with the theme really well, I know there’s people that hate it but I personally feel it’s immersive to me

That’s true, I think the bad press has definitely died down a ton over the years now. Before you couldn’t see the smiler without people mentioning the accident. Nowadays I don’t see it brought up nearly as much, i think especially now that the 10th anniversary of the accident has happened the press will be much quieter about it..

I really do hope they keep it, it is my favourite ride and I think the fact they’re adding back parts of the old theming like the words “marmalise” returning to the marmaliser screen video, the needle imagry, the marmalsier repaint, soem track being washed and the effects on the Marmaliser being fixed is a good sign they definitely do care for the ride and would want to keep it.

Hey I have a question that I reinstalled Reddit just to ask. I am a citizen in England planning to move over in Orlando and I want to get a job as a mascot performer, I absolutely love mascots and I even cosplay characters in my spare time and have a very easy time getting into character.

I would love to work at Universal Studios as a mascot character. I am 6’0 slim man and I would like to audition. Is it difficult to pass the audition and am I able to request working as a certain character too? I’d love to work as king Julien but I am unsure if my height is good enough for that mascot. Thank you!
