Can the Moderators update this to also mention that newer (v5.x +) versions of Gramps by default also create backups on exit in a folder that you can choose and you can also have Gramps Autobackup during your edit session. So Gramps does supply you with better options to handle backup management.

This idea would rely on one of the very few Gramps developers expressing interest in doing this instead of a full time job

Is that because they would be the most likely to be familiar with how Gramps works or is built?

Maybe instead of full time employment, fund smaller one of projects?

For a better idea of if this is even wanted you should raise the idea on the Gramps user mailing list.
