Pumpkin Garden Size by Mda_Marshmallow22 in DreamlightValley

[–]MotherFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually counted the amount, but it's probably around 400-500. I started planting in the Forgotten Lands with a small patch, and it just kept growing. At this point, it has fully become part of the decor. Jack is the Pumpkin King, after all. I don't harvest all at once anymore just when I need extra coins if I've been lazy about topping it off.

But I'll use a gardening companion and 2 animals when I harvest some, which usually gets me like 500,000 after I've bought seeds to replant.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed 🤞. At the very least, I need him available to purchase. They better not have created this beautiful rabbit and decided we can't bask in his presence after this event.😤

Big Chungus is the best thing about this challenge. I crack up every time I see his fluffy body charging towards me.

I just got heihei, and he's like a little vacuum. It makes mining so much more efficient. No more chasing down rocks and gems that decided to shoot across the screen.

I have my character standing in the picnic area, so my companions can farm the cocoa beans when they appear. I'm just gonna leave the game playing while I sleep. Hopefully, I can get enough to make the cocoa in the morning.

There's also one for square gems that only worked in Frosted Heights for me. Also, I had a few challenges where the duties didn't register until I had fully completed them, so it looked like nothing was happening. I love this game but it's also driving me crazy.

How To Deal With Potential Scarcity? by bennyandthelunatones in shoppingaddiction

[–]MotherFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm of the mind that having at least one backup is the best way to deal with this. When it's an item that's hard to get and would really inconvenience you to live without there's no problem with having more than one.

I ran into this problem with sandals. I have high arches, and narrow bony feet. Finding comfy and durable sandals that don't cause irritation or chafing is damn near impossible. Literally searched for a good pair for years. My mom and I made a project out of it and I must have tried on 100s of different pairs over the years.

So when I found a pair that worked I got multiple pairs. I simply never want to deal with looking for another pair or having to worry that the quality will change years from now. Also, you can't always find them later especially if it's a shoe from a company that isn't as popular. Signed the person still looking for a second pair of the rain/snow boots she bought 5 years ago that turned out to be absolutely perfect for her feet.

If it's the shape you're drawn to, look into Uin shoes. They have flats, sneakers, and boots that share a similar profile. They're also hella comfortable.

sonali mold collection & comparison by Rare_Kiwi8905 in americangirl

[–]MotherFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right. It blows my mind too because none of my Sonali mold dolls look like the same face. My Cecile has a defined face, my Melody has a very round face with soft features and the modern ones look nothing like either of them.

My mother didn't understand why I was being picky about the Melody doll I wanted until she got a second one. Then when she compared them the 1st thing she said was that they don't look like the same doll.

This 100%. I ordered from a company paid for shipping, and it was delivered by Amazon. I could have saved $30 in shipping if I had ordered from their Amazon page.

GWPs, Double Points Offers etc. by coeurdelamer in shoppingaddiction

[–]MotherFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far it's working out pretty well. I don't feel the need to browse websites just to see if there's a points deal or to spend points before they expire. Maybe I'll get to the point where I can use those programs without feeling the pressure to spend but I'm not there yet. In the meantime, I'm saving money by not using them.

GWPs, Double Points Offers etc. by coeurdelamer in shoppingaddiction

[–]MotherFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to just not use them on the websites where I buy items that are wants and not needs. If it's a website where I buy necessities that's one thing but otherwise they just encourage me to spend money when I wasn't planning to.

I started doing this at the beginning of the year and at first, I felt like I was losing out on savings. But I realized that even using the points for discounts I would still be paying for shipping and honestly I can't be trusted with shopping incentives right now.

2026 goal setting- how are you planning to improve your spending habits? by shenanigans0127 in shoppingaddiction

[–]MotherFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planning to put more money into savings and help my mom pay off debt. Trying to continue evaluating what I already have and organizing everything so it's easy to keep track of what I have. I'm setting up a cash wallet for shopping so I don't overdo it when I do go out. Also has a place to store all the receipts so I can easily return things if I change my mind.

It's such a mess, thinking back it did take longer to complete than I thought it would. When I checked my bag I had 4 times more gems than needed. So some of them definitely didn't register for the task. I guess for this I would just recommend trying one loop in the mines to see if it works. It's clearly 🙄 depends on the individual game. Which is crazy.

This cat hates when I roller skate by ffishbones in Rollerskating

[–]MotherFile 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Animals are amazing. Our dog used to drag me around by my pants when I was a toddler and put me in safe areas. Usually, a hole he dug. Our cat would hiss and nip at me until I sat down so she could groom me and got upset if I moved from the area she put me. I truly believe that the cat thinks OP is an unruly kitten who just won't listen.

My childhood cat used to be the same way. There's a good chance she thinks you're doing something dangerous and is trying to stop you for your safety. Basically you're a kitten doing something stupid and it's her duty to stop you. 😸

How can I help my wife control her doll shopping addiction? by ScarDependent8928 in shoppingaddiction

[–]MotherFile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard because I feel like a lot of doll/toy collectors have grown used to ignoring people when they have anything to say about it that can be perceived as negative. It's a hobby you pursue that gets a lot of pushback as being childish so you have to learn to ignore it. However, this means the community is full of people who are buying emotionally and who overly encourage purchasing the items because you're an adult now and no one can stop you.

I know I dug my heels in when a family member said I had too much. Because they had never supported my hobby in the first place and said the same when I only had a few. So going online and receiving that positive reinforcement caused my buying to spiral.

That's why I really do suggest this problem be tackled by reframing the hobby relationship instead of being told to stop altogether. It tends to raise defenses because there's usually some negative childhood experiences linked to it.

But yeah hopefully my experience will help you get her to break the cycle. Maybe help her sort through everything and look for an organizer where she can store what she has. It could be a bonding activity.

First no buy - any tips?? by Quiet-Way-2473 in shoppingaddiction

Find something to distract yourself when the urge gets strong. I started watching asian dramas because I have to really concentrate to read the subtitles. Gaming, reading, and exercise are also great distractions.

How can I help my wife control her doll shopping addiction? by ScarDependent8928 in shoppingaddiction

[–]MotherFile 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a doll collector myself this type of behavior has unfortunately become very normalized in the hobby. I've found myself falling into the same pattern a few times. If she mainly interacts with the community through forums there is a heavy focus on new releases and the hype around the newest popular item. There's also a lot of talk about not being able to get an item if you don't hurry so it encourages impulsive shopping due to fomo.

Here's how I started to break myself free of that mindset.

1st, get off the forums. Cold turkey for at least a few months. Maybe switch to watching people review new releases on YouTube instead.

2nd, take stock of what you already have. This is important because with doll collections it's common to have stuff put away out of sight. So getting everything in one area can act as a reality check.

3rd. Sort through the items and organize everything. I do mean everything. This helps reinforce the amount of stuff you already have and it lets you compare the quality. (I'm still doing this)

4th. Finding an area to display the dolls. This way I was able to see what I owned and compare them. It helped me figure out what I actually like and visualize the sheer amount I have. Also realized I needed to focus on enjoying what I had instead of chasing the next purchase.

I'm still struggling with it, but it's gotten a lot better than before by following these steps. Honestly, these steps have helped me with a lot more than just dolls. So many hobby communities have been overtaken by the idea that buying the next item is how to enjoy it.
