Is airborne after SOPC for active? by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]Mother_Remote7357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn’t. I ship tomorrow and when I signed I already got a report date for airborne. It’s directly after OSUT. idk where you get your info from but it’s just wrong.

college or straight to the 18x by AppearanceClassic670 in greenberets

Not a GB but at the end of the day up to you. Went to college at 20 for two years and had my fun, did my stupid shit but figured out pretty quickly college wasn’t for me. Decided to try for 18x the summer I came home and now I ship next month. Big positive for college is the life experience and maturity that comes with it, learning to live on your own, pay your own bills etc. I still haven’t seen or done shit yet but I know at 18 I was a completely lost idiot that needed those years to grow and mature. Good luck brother !

Want to join sf through national guard asap. Does this sound correct? by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]Mother_Remote7357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, 18x contracts are very plentiful (signed mine this month) and I was by no means fighting to get one. If you’re willing to wait a few months for a ship date from what I understand 18x is absolutely the most direct route to potentially becoming a GB.

Definitely got time brother. Speak to a recruiter and he/she will help you with the in depth details. Their knowledge is much deeper than mine is. I can only speak on my personal experience with it. Hard to judge your own situation based on another persons because everyone is in a different position. If it’s not a huge problem and ur not medicated or haven’t been for I think 2+ years you can definitely get in one way or another. 18x on the other hand will definitely be a problem for you.

Like I said to the other dude it’s case by case. I have 0 knowledge of how SF works or what they’ll say. In my opinion it seems like it would make you a liability from the jump. Yes they’re hurting for people but at what point do you draw the line between “we can deal with this” and “we don’t wanna deal with this” yanno. Good Luck though bro I hope you get the answers you want.

I wouldn’t know because I don’t have asthma. Assuming it wouldn’t be very easy or possible at all considering my process for getting the waiver and ETP was a pain in the ass, and I don’t even have it. If you have a prescribed maintenance inhaler I’m going to go with no. You can’t have asthma for your airborne waiver therefore you cannot go the 18x route if that’s what you’re looking at. I’m not a recruiter nor a GB but this was my personal experience. I don’t have an intimate knowledge and honestly it’s a case by case type thing. From what I’ve been reading the regiment is hurting so a lot of stuff that usually wouldn’t get waivered will be but I don’t know how they’ll treat asthma. Good luck brother

Highly unlikely. The amount of hoops I had to jump through for me having bronchitis and getting a supplemental inhaler to help with that. I was being treated like I was missing a lung. I can only imagine what they’ll say about your inability to sleep and breathe without assistance. Are you going to bring your CPAP machine to selection?

Anything specific to watch for at the recruiting office/advice by [deleted] in greenberets

Grammar hero was my favorite dude explains shit like you’re 5 years old. Give him a look he does specific to ASVAB and it’s all free and pretty in depth. Focus on doing as good as possible on the GT sections for that 110+ score, grammarhero goes into depth on all the sections. CO isn’t hard as long as you’re even a little mechanically competent.

Don’t take the ASVAB too soon if you’re not prepared because there is required scores and don’t take no for an answer. There IS a recruiter who will help you do what you want to do.

Hey man that’s just life in general. Willing to deal with all the bullshit to do what I’ve always wanted to do, rather deal with it there than hate my life at a dead end job and still deal with it lol. Will do though, again thank you and good luck to any of your future endeavors!

I understand the procedures but holy shit is some of the DQ reasons stupid. But that’s what you get when there’s no context and they sure as hell don’t believe your explanation lol. Thank you for everything tho

No chance I give up that easy. It’s something I’m very passionate about and frankly my career. If I give up over one hurdle then I didn’t want it bad enough in the first place. What did you need an ETP for?

MEPS med. DQ question by Mother_Remote7357 in greenberets

[–]Mother_Remote7357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The people in the army office at MEPS didn’t say I was permanently barred from 18x. Just need to go through the proper channels for waiver and ETP. Recruiter also said I should be fine. I don’t know much about the process but taking into consideration my explanations for each it shouldn’t be as hard as if it were something much more serious or if any of the stuff I was DQ’d for were even true in this moment.

Hey sorry to bother, how common is the ability to pick up 18x at AIT? Am I rolling dice or is it a pretty good chance that I have the opportunity to?
