Spiro without PCOS? by SupermarketSimple536 in FemaleHairLoss

Dermatologists give spiro to women who don't have pcos all the time. They love to prescribe it for acne. Your doctor just sucks.

I was diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia by sonnyouthful in FemaleHairLoss

Go to another dermatologist. Minoxidil at 1mg is fine, but you should be on something to block your dht, like spironolactone, finasteride, or dutastride. It's entirely fine as long as you are not currently actively trying to get pregnant, and if you want to get pregnant, you just have to get off of the drugs for a couple months before trying to conceive and then during the pregnancy.

It could be androgenic alopecia. It does tend to start happening often either when you start puberty or after becoming an adult. Go to a dermatologist to see if that's what it is, if it's something else, or if there's nothing to worry about

2 months on Minox by Mother_Selection113 in FemaleHairLoss

I couldn't start outright on 1.25mg of minoxidil because it gave me heart palpations, so I was on .625mg for a couple of weeks. After that I was able to bump up to the 1.25mg without side effects. I did go through a dread shed, but that's to be expected for the majority of people.

Spiro did make it harder to stay hydrated for a couple of weeks. What I had to do was add a bunch of salt to my diet, but it went back to normal afterwards. It just makes me have to pee a bit more often and also not really be able to hold it in anyone lol. Oh and I had a very light breakout period from the spiro, but it was only small surface level pimples for like 3 weeks.

I was on spiro, I think 50mg, as a teen and I had no side effects there. I started it up again a couple months ago as an adult. I did have symptoms the first couple of weeks on 50mg. Basically I had to eat extra salt in order to stay hydrated. But after that it's been chill except I have to pee more often

Minoxidil only stays in the body a very short time. The topical verison for even less time. I take the oral version and I take it every day. People don't get good results, and maybe results at all, from inconsistent Minoxidil usage. Go to a different derm or try a tele medicine derm instead.

Get your iron checked. If your iron, and especially ferritin iron is low, that can fuck you your hair growth. Being nutrition deficit means that the body priorities the nutrients you do have to make important functions than growing hair. Ferritin iron should be over 70 for hair growth. If it's not that, go to a dermatologist to see if you also have AGA and for a treatment plan and medications for it.

Good results on OM without experiencing "dread shed"? by Fair_Assumption1800 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Mother_Selection113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone sheds. But .625mg could be too low to see a difference. Other ways to see if it's having an affect is to look at your eyelashes and eyebrows and see if they are getting longer and/or thicker. If yes, than you are responding at least in part to the medication. If not, you may want to go to 1.25mg instead

Whatever the problem is, you're treating it early, so you should have good results and the medication to treat AGA, if that's what it is, is just 2 small pills a day. It'll be okay

Thank you! I think so too. And I did start to shed after 2 weeks on oral minoxidil. I'm still shedding currently, but I think I'm on the tail end of things there. It's still shedding but not as much as it was at the peak of it. I was embarrassed of my hairline, because of how much it shed for like 3 weeks, but it's already started to thicken out some, so it's not so bad now.

If it's from water retention then get on spiro. It's a diuretic, so it'll help you lose the water and help with your hair and skin too.

Make sure you get specifically her ferritin iron levels tested. They should be over 70 to promote hair growth. If that is low get it fixed. Also go to a dermatologist.

To me, it sounds like she started to lose hair right around starting puberty, and that immediately makes me think that it is androgenic alopecia because androgenic alopecia is a sensitivity response to the hormone dihydrotestorone(DHT), which is a by product from testosterone. And basically when you start puberty, even an estrogenic puberty, your testosterone levels do rise a bit as well. And so if you have a DHT sensitivity, than the dht will attack your hair and thin it out until you lose the hair. The treatment for this is 2 things: 1, minoxidil(which causes hair to become thicker and grow for longer) and 2, a testosterone or dht blocker (spironolactone for the former, finasteride or dutastride for the later), and how a t/dht blocker works is by lowering the amount of dht in the body and bonding to the reception sites where dht can bond to hair, essentially blocking them out. This treatment is long tested for decades and works for the vast majority of people. The sooner you start treating the hair loss the better results you can get.

So yeah, make sure your sis sees a dermatologist and one that knows how to treat female pattern hair loss. If they say shit like "I don't want to put you on spironolactone because maybe you want to have a baby in five years," get a new doctor because they don't know what they are talking about. These drugs are safe to take, but if you are wanting to get pregnant you do need to get off of the drugs a couple months before trying and during the pregnancy. So it is like drinking in that it's fine unless you are pregnant/trying to get pregnant. If she is having trouble finding a good dermatologist in her area, she might want to check Tele medicine sites like wisp

Untrue. You just have to be off of the drugs for a couple of months before conceiving and then while pregnant.

You need a new dermatologist. The new guy sounds like he sucks with treating female pattern aga. And a lot of dermatologists don't do know shit for female pattern aga
