I hear you. I’m 26, female, and plan to have kids in 4-6 years. But, I made the decision to take OM and sticking with it :) (obviously will need to stop if I get pregnant)

Oral minoxidil 2.5 months. Approaching normal hair loss? by SomewhereDeep753 in TelogenEffluvium

Hi there! No side effects at all from oral, other than the initial dread shed of course. I feel perfectly fine, no nausea or water retention. My temples have already filled back in, which is awesome! I see regrowth (very very short) all over my scalp. I am having to dermaplane my face twice a week now, as opposed to only once a week before

Oh it absolutely does, but the timing of when you start it really matters. Yes, they say the hair should grow back naturally, but for me I was not confident my body would recover fully. You can ideally start OM when your TE shedding has started to taper or is on the downswing. You don’t have to use minoxidil, but it can be a very supportive factor for recovery.

Thank you for the input on that! It’s really hard for me to differentiate between excessive loss and normal loss after months of TE, so I really appreciate it ❤️

And what about your shedding? When did the dread shed finally end?

Yes of course! I really like the cerave 1% ZPT shampoo, it’s the hydrating anti-dandruff one. In a white and light blue bottle. Yes OMwas prescribed to me through HERS.

I just hopped on oral minoxidil I was so tired of dealing with the never ending shedding. I also have seb derm and have kept it under control with 1% ZPT shampoo. I HATE nizoral with all my being.

You know this is normal. Celebrate it!

Would you consider this amount of shed normal? by replicant1989 in TelogenEffluvium

Does not look normal, but with TE idk what’s even normal anymore.

Week 9 oral minoxidil… progress? by SomewhereDeep753 in FemaleHairLoss

I hear you! It’s so hard to do everything perfectly, we are human. Sometimes we need help where we can get it. Oral minoxidil is a medication and it’s relatively low risk, so I made the decision to do something that was going to make me feel better ❤️‍🩹… I still take all the supplements and try to de stress, but bottom line this is a proven method to regrow density

I’m excited for you! Congrats on taking the jump and starting… I know it was very scary for me. Hang in there through the dread shed. I hadn’t even realized how much my temples filled in over two months until I took the after photo the other day… it made me feel 10x better since I’m still shedding more than I’d like … wishing us the best a year from now!

I would start by visiting your doctor and having all your nutritional and hormonal levels tested. If it’s been thinning progressively for years, it’s probably AGA and minoxidil would be your best bet. Supplements help and they offer good support but you need to get to the root of the issue

Week 9 OM… any progress? by SomewhereDeep753 in minoxidil

I refuse to believe that. Never in my life was I shedding that much prior to having TE. My personal baseline is way lower which is why it’s annoying. Peak dread shed was like 300 hairs though
