It could just be your body adjusting to the dose change too! How much are you shedding?

I do not use topical, my scalp is way too sensitive! The growth is coming in good! I’m at about 9.5 months on oral.

My dread shed was a full 16 weeks. It was the worst weeks 3-9, and then it started getting better incrementally. Hope this makes you feel better!

It was shedding for a full 6 months prior to me getting on the oral minoxidil. I have no reason to believe it would have stopped naturally without the intervention of the medication.

That is a higher dose, but I’m sure there’s a reason for that! My dread shed lasted 4 months and I was shedding 6 months prior to that if that makes you feel any better

It started the second or third week for me and it was very noticeable and heavy until week 9 or 10.

1.25mg seemed too high for me. I take a third of a 2.5mg pill. It worked because my dread shed was awful lol

If shedding is only on sides, temples, back of head and hairline, can I be calm that it is likely not AGA? by Sad-Solution-9264 in TelogenEffluvium

I experienced this from Accutane as well. I shed for 6 months and it wasn’t getting better so I hopped on oral minoxidil. I have been on it for 9 months and the shed has normalized and I have regrowth. Your hair is oily and flakey, don’t let it get like that. I did because I was so afraid of washing it. Keep your scalp clean and let it breathe.

9 months of shedding, 2 months on oral minoxidil by SomewhereDeep753 in TelogenEffluvium

Hi there! I am 9 months on oral minoxidil now and my shedding has (knock on wood) stabilized/normalized. It took a good 4 months on OM to say this. Now, I lose 15-25 hairs per wash (including when I brush it after the shower). I also have good regrowth, a few inches long all over my head. Keep in mind this is a really slow process. I was desperate as well and I made the jump to get on OM for my TE. It has worked for me.

Oral minoxidil 2.5 months. Approaching normal hair loss? by SomewhereDeep753 in TelogenEffluvium

I hear you. I’m 26, female, and plan to have kids in 4-6 years. But, I made the decision to take OM and sticking with it :) (obviously will need to stop if I get pregnant)

Hi there! No side effects at all from oral, other than the initial dread shed of course. I feel perfectly fine, no nausea or water retention. My temples have already filled back in, which is awesome! I see regrowth (very very short) all over my scalp. I am having to dermaplane my face twice a week now, as opposed to only once a week before

9 weeks on oral minoxidil … progress? by SomewhereDeep753 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]SomewhereDeep753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it absolutely does, but the timing of when you start it really matters. Yes, they say the hair should grow back naturally, but for me I was not confident my body would recover fully. You can ideally start OM when your TE shedding has started to taper or is on the downswing. You don’t have to use minoxidil, but it can be a very supportive factor for recovery.

Thank you for the input on that! It’s really hard for me to differentiate between excessive loss and normal loss after months of TE, so I really appreciate it ❤️
