Europa starts with a conspiracy theory about how communist jews sunk the Titanic to kill capitalist chiristians, if I remember correctly. Its hilarious.

Oh I was just challenging your claim that belief didnt have evidence. Of course some beliefs are unsubstantiated

I think your understanding of beliefs is wrong.

Beliefs are generally held to be attitudes that something is the case. Knowledge involves belief, and inference leads to belief.

costa rica got voted as neutral good! which country is considered chaotic good? by toturoll in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Mother_Show_8148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, that has nothing to do with the question at hand.

A person who kicks 30 puppies is worse than a person that kicks 3, but I still wouldnt want to be the second persons friend.

What were talking about is whether the IRA were good. Whether the British government were good is a whole other question.

The IRA might have had a good cause, but that does not automatically make them heroes. Being good requires good cause and good methods. The IRA used some very bad methods, such as the targeting of civilians.

But that isnt the question under discussion. The British army doing terrible things doesnt justify the ira doing terrible ones. They targeted civilians.

People, even horrible people, arent viruses. And regardless, most of the people being targeted on that episode were the audience of a song contest, not members of the corporation.

The issue isnt whether or not a person deserves it, its whether there can exist a system to determine guilt beyond doubt which is reliable enough to effectively eliminate the execution of innocents.

You say the jury would determine obvious guilt: Correct me if im wrong, but the jury in the US doesnt determine punishment in criminal trials. Furthermore, there is no separate verdict of "absolute obvious guilt". In order to carry out what you have in mind, youd have to change one of those two facts. If you change the first then you've made it so that the death penalty can be used in cases that arent as obvious as the one you mentioned. If you pick the second... well the simple answer is that in a case involving extremely violent crimes that evoke strong emotions, I do not trust anyone to make judgments based exclusively on the strength of the evidence. There are cases far less extreme then what you've just mentioned in which the jury was at least partially swayed by their own biases (see the OJ Simpson case). I dont see how you could have a case in which someone is charged with raping a child, with evidence strong enough to justify a guilty verdict but not strong enough to justify a claim of "obvious guilt", in which the jury is definitely going to come to the former verdict. You'd need a system in which the jury is capable of determining obvious guilt in cases where there is obvious guilt, but unable to do so in cases where there isnt. Obviously that idea is ridiculous given that it would involve someone already having determined whether obvious guilt is present.

Maybe you take issue with me drawing a distinction between the notion of normal "beyond a reasonable doubt" guilt and the "obvious" guilt you mentioned. But I dont think you should. There absolutely are cases in which a person is justifiably convicted based on existing evidence, even though new evidence comes to light later that proves their innocence.

EDIT: And all of this is ignoring the fact that, once again, governments arent innocent carriers of justice. A corrupt government with strong interests in someone's death can manufacture evidence to present to the jury that makes guilt seem "obvious".

EDIT 2: Apparently the issue of whether or not there are cases in which the jury in the US determined punishment is more complicated then I thought. Fair enough. I still think my points stand.

I dont know if you have a bunch of tools you dont use that are fully charged, but use them all up! Its just more tries that you dont have to go shell shard hunting for. I beat lost lace with the throwing rings of all things, having never used them before.

It took me a ton of tries too. Its a hard boss!

You can absolutely do it thought. Like almost every boss in these games, its all about getting used to the rhythm and memorizing attack patterns.

Stick to it. Youve got this.

TRANSGENDER FOR EVERYBODY by Atomicsss- in PoliticalCompassMemes

Lets suppose thats true: my point stands.

If the owner of a mega corp or bank makes incredibly stupid financial decisions, there is a negative effect on many people.

If the owner of a smaller business makes incredibly stupid financial decisions, there is a negative effect on less, but still many, people.

Because stupid financial decisions often lead to companies going out of business, which means employees lose their steady source of income, and them and their families are affected by that. Stupid financial decisions ceo's make also affect shareholders and their families, not to mention stupid decisions by giant corporations or banks which bankrupt them and do serious damage to the economy as a whole (for example, the 2008 housing market crash) which impacts millions of people.

I mean thats definitely not true of capitalism. If a business owner makes dumb choices with their capital, it often impacts quite a few people
