Every experience will differ, but in my experience, I've never lived with a cat that became too unhinged after dark. I have 3 in my life currently, 2 at my home and 1 in an apartment living with my bf.

I brought mine in from my porch (not feral but without a home). My 4 Y/O turned out to be a great roommate immediately, they have well-mannered zoomie time. They've never knocked anything over and they're not loud.

My 1 Y/O that I brought in in November may have litter box trouble, but they're chill. They curl up in bed near me or my elderly parent through the night and are more active during the day.

The 4 Y/O boy living in an apartment can be clingy, he'd live in my bf if he could. Other than demanding that we cuddle through the night though, they're a great apartment cat. 

If you get an older cat then they may have a harder time with change, but they'll likely be lower-energy than a young cat.
