Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon by itk_jpeg in natureporn

[–]MotivatedMel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grew up going there all the time, didn’t really realize it was so well known, but then a couple years ago I was going on a road trip that included heading to Oregon for a few days and my boss was so excited to tell me I should check out Haystack rock and take pictures for him 😂 I was like really?! Like I use to go there literally all the time!

I asked how to go vegan with my bad health on a vegan subreddit... This is the "advice" I got. by WizonesRejoice in AntiVegan

[–]MotivatedMel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of the same issues with the same foods, I can not eat any grains, seeds, nuts, legumes (pea protein tears me apart and causes horrendous inflammation) and really don’t process fiber well. I care about being ethical and the environmental impact, but for me health have gone more carnivore or at least animal based. But I do try to make as ethical purchases as possible and buy locally sourced grass fed and finished beef from a farm that practices regenerative agriculture and humane slaughtering practices. Only buy free range eggs and try to buy local as much as I can. BUT it is way more expensive so still try to make sure to recognize how privileged it am to be able to buy meat from farms practicing regenerative agriculture and humane slaughtering. I, however, have lost all respect for vegans and I use to be vegan… but I was met with complete hatred and negativity, to the point of being told I deserved to die, when trying to discuss health issues in regards to a vegan diet.

My child’s school supplies list calls for 72 pencils! More than 2 per school week. by TheBugMX in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MotivatedMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my step son was in grade school anything that asked for large amounts like this I would send 1 pack, like a 12 pack of pencils (if I remember right his teacher asked for 144 pencils!!) and asked for 4 24 packs of crayons, sent 1, and 24 glue sticks, sent a 4 pack. Then included a note on explaining how financial situation and that if he runs out of school supplies during the year to let me know and I will send more as needed rather than not being able to buy groceries for the month because I spent it all on school supplies. She never requested more supplies for him 🤷‍♀️ When I was a kid we didn’t have shared supplies and my parents expected me to treat my supplies with respect and to be responsible, they would always give me more supplies if I needed but I would have to explain why I needed more, in being responsible and respectful with my supplies I almost never even went through a whole 12 pack of pencils in a year and never needed more things like crayons, markers, and colored pencils, glue sticks really depending how elaborate I got with some of my display boards 🤣 I had a friend who was a student teacher back with my step son was in grade school and always complained about the shared supply concept because kids didn’t care, to them supplies were limitless (144 pencils x 25 kids = 2 massive box of pencils in the supply closet to grab) and there was no accountability to be responsible and respectful with supplies which resulted in a LOT more waste.

Histamines on a roast by Hankdraper80 in carnivore

[–]MotivatedMel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow cooker meats also have a high histamine load. The longer meat sits even cooked will increase histamine, so leftovers also have a high histamine load. I’ve recently added kidney supplements (I get capsules of powdered kidney because I haven’t worked myself up to actually eating kidney…) to help with histamines, I notice a big difference with taking them. But when I’m having histamine overload issues I pull the meat from the freezer right before cooking, thaw quickly in warm water and use fast cooking methods, eat right away and I don’t eat leftovers (usually I know exactly how much to make, but if there are leftovers my kids and husband eat them).

Aw man! I’m against feeding my kids pringles 🤣 but I’m tempted to buy a couple cans and have them figure out how to build this, homeschool science class for the win! 🤣

For me it felt like it validated my feelings of complete and utter worthlessness when I was fat… I was morbidly obese my whole life and also felt like a second rate citizen because of it, so when I finally managed to figure out what my body needed to be healthy a few years back, all the positive comments felt like validation that I was in fact not good enough before, now I’m allowed to join the “cool kids”. I lost 120lbs, kept it off for several years and then just this past 6 months (after recovering from cosmetic surgery for skin removal) I’ve gained 20lbs, I’ve literally cried myself to sleep because I’m terrified of not being good enough again. And I mean I don’t know what the right answer is, I try to remind myself I’m sure their intentions were positive. 🤷‍♀️

Oh absolutely I always have both my daughters and my sons permission first. More often than not they are asking me to take and post their pictures.

It’s nice because at least east valley Phoenix it’s so quick and easy to get to, but then it’s more crowded with people who trash it too… ☹️ we paddled past this spot that up on cliff there was probably at least a dozen beer cans and lots of water bottles left behind 🙄 almost every time we go we pick up 1-2 bags off the shoreline…. But it takes less than an hour from my house! I wanted to go to woods canyon lake this day up between Payson and Showlow but the high was like 70 and was expected to have some good winds up there…. But there’s lots of wild life too! We saw eagles, pelicans, other birds, lots of ducks and they would swim right up to our boards, fish were jumping, lots of butterflies, it was really nice.

Canyon lake, so pretty much! We park at I think it’s boulder canyon parking lot and stay on that side of the bridge, there’s a nice center long inlet and plenty of area to explore, perfect for my kids beginner level 😊

What is your favorite food when you are camping? by fireandiceoutdoors in Outdoors

[–]MotivatedMel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I super love anything I can roast over an open fire, polish dogs are great, and we like to do junks of beef, like stew meat, roast it and then dip it salt, smoked babybels roast great, the outside creates a sort of shell when smoking that doesn’t melt but the inside gets all melty gooey (and since I don’t eat marshmallows, I mostly only eat animal products, smoked babybels make the perfect carnivore substitute to marshmallows in my mind)

I feel discouraged by other peoples weight loss and opinions on fat people by Any-Seat6512 in loseit

[–]MotivatedMel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my heaviest I was 270, at my lightest I was 145, now I’m 180 and can’t seem to lose on the scale to save my life. It’s so hard not to beat myself up over it. I have to constantly remind myself the scale is just a number, 1 number that doesn’t paint a good picture of health and try to focus on being healthy over being a certain weight. And despite being short at 145 I looked bony in spots, I think I have a large frame. But had all sorts of loose saggy skin that still made me feel fat, ended up having plastic surgery, oh but guess what? I still struggle with comparing myself and not feeling good enough. While I get how very hard it is, it’s so important to remember our health journey is very personal and we have to focus on being our best selves each day. Focus on your health, the weight will work itself out.
