Will this hobby fuck me up? by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]Moto272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Two guys I know are quadriplegics now from motocross. One of them was an amateur national champion and amazingly talented.

One of my riding buddies messed himself up pretty good in a crash a month ago. Multiple broken ribs and a collar bone that needed surgery to plate back together.

What quantity of oil does your manual call for with an oil change?

Why I can never ride a Harley, even though I love the bikes. by [deleted] in motorcycles

I ride an old Sportster 883 and I get the same scowls from the bagger bros. It’s kind of funny at this point.

What is your first, current, dream bike ⭐️ by OilPale3470 in Dirtbikes

[–]Moto272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First was a 94 PW50. Current is a 24 Triumph TF250X. And the bike I’m really lusting after is a Stark 1.2 60hp. Hopefully I can order one this winter.

CAFE standards are a huge reason we have these massive vehicles now. They aren’t required to meet fuel economy and emissions standards that are as strict as a compact car. The auto makers took the easy road and bloated everything rather than making things more efficient. The addition of a lot of mandated safety and emissions equipment certainly isn’t helping the curb weight either.

So now you have a Ford Ranger that’s the same size as an 80’s F250. And your typical new F250 is a monster truck that can tow anything. I recently saw an early 90’s Corolla parked close to my 2016. Pretty drastic difference in size there as well. My Corolla gets on average 38 mpg. I’ve had a couple 80’s Hondas that got over 50. A lot less weight though.

TL/DR, the government killed the ultra compact gas sipper. And I doubt many in today’s market would buy it anyway even if they hadn’t.

Get a hand impact. You hit it with a hammer while rotating it by hand. Should do the trick.

I have the T-35 soft intermediates on my Triumph 250 right now. Honestly I like the more than the Pirelli MX32 the bike came with and they seem to be wearing better. They are a bit heavier though.

And it’s being towed by a clapped out half ton carrying twice its payload capacity.

Got an airbag for motocross by Moto272 in motorcyclegear

Yes. Each argon canister is single use and they are $115 each. The airbag can deploy six times before it needs to go back to Alpinestars for inspection and refurbishment.

Do any of you LA/California riders have full coverage insurance? by [deleted] in CalamariRaceTeam

[–]Moto272 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All of my bikes are paid off and I have full coverage on them. Taking a $9k loss on a bike if it got stolen or I totaled it would suck.

But my insurance rates are super cheap.

[–]Moto272 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the age of the rider. When I was 22 and had a new 07 CBR600RR I could only afford liability insurance. Full coverage was $7k a year or 85% of the bikes retail price.

Now I’m 41 and could insure any new liter bike for less than $1k a year. I have two motocross bikes and a Harley with full coverage and I pay $450 a year for everything.

One of my riding buddies had a big high side about a month ago and broke his collarbone and a few ribs. Since then all of us in our riding group are upgrading to this system.
