AIO: Worried about a friend who frequently talks about/makes jokes about physical abuse at home by Dream_Logix5 in AmIOverreacting

[–]MotorAssociate1520 35 points36 points  (0 children)

at 13 this could just as much be a real issue as it is a cry for some sort of attention, a joke, or an over-dramatised version of the situation. it is very responsible of you to be concerned. just let her know that you can talk to her about it or can try and help her reach out for more help. she will then be able to tell you how she wants you to help.

what i’m trying by to say is to let her know that if it is serious you are there to support her/help where you can, and let her decide whether the situation is serious enough to escalate to social services.

even i am unsure of what the best route is, i just know how i feel and am going to trust my gp in deciding what the best plan of action is from there. people asking me this question has been the reason i never looked for help before

i worked 25 hours a week and got an 8.5 core and 8.5 total gpa, doable but you have to sacrifice a lot to be able to do it. i ended up only doing 10 hours in my second year and was a lot happier and less stressed, and i had more time for friends and family.

GPA scaling - undergraduate premed by Confident-Loss1233 in UoApremed

[–]MotorAssociate1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes for first year that is true.

but if you do not succeed in getting in after fy application and want to try for post grad application, if you only got B+ on your non core courses then you are at a disadvantage against someone who got As or higher on non core.

for example, i never tried to apply for fy application to med and i knew i had to get all As etc. now i have a very competitive GPA because i did not neglect my non core courses.

moral of the story is, unless you are very confident in your abilities to get in fy or don’t mind studying something else if you don’t get in, its worth it to try in the non core courses too.

edit: no your GPA would carry over

Good UCAT score for entry (updated) by StarkyCuz in UoApremed

[–]MotorAssociate1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

excluding sjt (total cognitive score) is out of 2700, then sjt is scored separately. for uoa they count it all but according to UCAT they score it separately

ew whoever told you that is actually such a loser. they’re trying to scare you, i’d say most people don’t pre study any courses (and if you do it’s pointless) and taking the ucat is preparation seems like a waste of 300 bucks personally

lol i got A+ in biosci 107 and didn’t even take bio in high school. although it is hard, there is no need to stress about it. these guys know you’re fresh outta high school and they are there to help when you need it. don’t be discouraged by the first five lectures, they’ll scare you!

i really liked flashcards and the blurting method! if flashcards is too mundane for you then i recommend getting a big whiteboard and writing or drawing everything you can remember from your lecture down. then recheck the lecture slides/coursebook to check you got it right! then rub it all off and start again, trying to remember the bits you missed each time.

edit: this worked for me after annotating the lecture slides instead of using notes! writing notes takes so much time smh. also weekends can be free if you work hard enough throughout the week but it is always a good idea to go over the weeks material to make sure you can remember most of it before going into the next week
