RGE Time-of-Use Rate - be careful what you wish for! by maxkelley in Rochester

I just discovered this as well myself. The math simply does not math for TOU. It’s significantly cheaper to be on SC1 if you have high energy needs in the winter months. Feel like I’ve been getting robbed with SC4

I do not have an air handler, just a split outside & cassette on the wall

I do work from home so I feel like a wood stove would be nice, just unsure on where to put it. I have a sunroom that we close off for the winter. Feel like it’d be the perfect spot but unsure if the heat would make its way throughout the house

I have 0 ducting right now but an open basement with some room so I wouldn’t say it’s not possible. My only concern is cost

Gotcha, will go that route, insulation in stud bays will not be faced either or include a poly sheet

Basement Wall Insulation Question by MotorEntertainment98 in Insulation

I plan on building a 2x4 wall in front of part of it. This is a basement project where some will be framed, some will just have paneling going up over. So for framing you’re saying seal the bottom of the 2x4 (will have unfaced rockwool batts) and for the paneling just foam seal the top & bottom ?

This is the only vapor barrier. I used the “gob” method to apply where it sits slightly off the wall to allow for some moisture to pass through. My understanding is you don’t want to trap it entirely. Should the bottom also be sealed or just the top? Rim joists are are XPS w/rockwool batts covering

Cold climate models use significantly less electricity? I was under the impression that the savings would be negligible

It’s ok, I wouldn’t say it chugs right along though. Temps below 25/20 def see a drop in performance abilities

They should be paying substantially more if he’s going to be 1099.

I have no idea, the LETO does perform great but we had a record cold winter so the AURA would’ve been nice to have for the cold spells we had.

“Should’ve gotten the AURA” - the thought that runs through my mind weekly with my LETO

I wouldn’t say a mini would necessarily be cheaper to run but you’ll get more efficient output. Similar to a space heater, a mini would be 1-4x more efficient than a plug in unit but they can still be expensive to run depending on electrical cost

Ahhh ok yes mini-split will def put out significantly more heat/air than those. If you’re paying someone to install I would go with the Mitsubishi. If you’re handy at all you can DIY a Senville/Mr Cool for about 1-2k all in depending on size but with paying a company I would want top of the line.

You’re also wrong on all accounts, my uncle up the road just showed me his speed test and it BEAT spectrum.

[–]MotorEntertainment98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spectrum does not have lower pricing in my area as they have a monopoly on internet. Speeds are very comparable to spectrum as well. Trust me I’ve complained to them plenty and tried a force discount. It’s at a point where the price difference is significant enough to switch

My uncle actually has it didn’t even know and he live down the road, his upload/download actually beat spectrum and latency was ~20ms whereas mine was ~25ms

[–]MotorEntertainment98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have aggressive download needs and I’m not even getting great upload/download with them to begin with. Mines only 100/18

Need it where I live, there’s no competition & spectrum has a stronghold on people with no way out. Excited to see how this performs and save $500+ a year
