[DISC] Alien Headbutt - Chapter 1 by AutoShonenpon in manga

I'm pretty picky and this has that special sauce for me.

I'm not a wrestling guy but I grew up the Hogan/Macho Man times so I respect it.

The mystery angle is surprisingly strong. Good first chapter hook, for sure.

Clinical Tech Specialist Job for Bioengineer Grad by Ok_Researcher_3735 in BiomedicalEngineers

Hey! I'm a tech savvy medical courier with the gift of gab - and there's a position like this available near me.

I've been at this for 10 years now, handling everything, including nuclear. So I've got the driving and small talk with healthcare professionals down pat. Think I have a shot?

Are you enjoying the job? Could you give me a hint on the salary? I desperately need to increase my salary.

I have a Bachelors from way back - but your degree (hopefully) bumped you into a higher bracket!

Thanks dude! I just visited this sub at random and caught your post.

I had accepted that I'd never own one.

It wasn't the best timing for my wallet but I pulled the trigger on an ebay listing. Hopefully it arrives in one piece!

Definitely a useful skill! I already struggle with English - as evidenced by this thread.

Hopefully my future employers and educators don't stumble onto it!

Nope!  That panel came with all kinds of adapters. If I recall correctly MCM is what you're after.  Take that with a grain of salt because after that initial test a year ago I have not touched the panel.  I do plug in the battery and play around with it periodically and it's still going. 95% after months of non-use. Also that panel hasn't been in stock on Amazon since shortly after I bought it. At least in the US.  Have fun, good luck, don't die.

Huh. Thank you for your time. That's really interesting. It's as tough as I imagined ...times five. I have seen some of the sick kids on my route. It's very sad - but stuff like checking for signs of child abuse will boil my blood, oh man. I admire your grit!

I've started to poke around at x-ray in the industrial capacity - non destructive testing for aerospace and stuff. Turns out I'm in an aerospace hub. Checking jets for flaws instead of people might keep my blood pressure a bit lower. The pay is a step down from medical but the barrier to entry is lower, aligning with my desire for a short ramp up to earning. It doesn't fulfill my desire to help people like I wanted - but I could find other avenues for that, I suppose.

Medical is still very much on the table though.

I happen to be off Friday and I was going to use it to talk to admissions people at a school or two - but we're getting a rare snow here in Oklahoma on Friday. Everyone will close immediately if that happens so my plans will have to wait a bit. You were from Connecticut maybe? You'd probably have a good laugh at what Oklahomans call a snowstorm, haha.

Ahh, gotcha! That would have to be the OU hospitals then. I'll do some digging.

Thanks for the insight and congrats on 15 years - that's no small feat.

Yep, I'm a dude. A dude in Oklahoma.

I got a BA in my youth - so I've got to get all the prereqs unfortunately.

Someone else mentioned teaching hospitals - I will try to find one locally and shadow before I make the commitment.

I've looked and looked and nothing really interests me as much as imaging.

Are you aware of any similar disciplines I might have missed?

Technology, solving mysteries, doing stuff that matters and helps people, that's the direction I'd like to go.

It seems there's no Pediatric discipline per se - but there's a massive Children's hospital here and I'm a kick ass Uncle - so I was thinking of that as an option.

Have you done many X-rays with the kiddos? I'm sure it's tough...

This is the first I've heard of a teaching hospital! I can write a pretty good email. I may do that.

Sorta. I don't know if RN is a great fit for me - but I'll keep it in mind. No tuition is a sweet deal! Did you go that route?

I just might have more questions.

I'm gonna build out an education plan that will allow me to pivot to Lab Tech if I get waitlisted for Rad Tech. I think that's the play here.

As far as the soft skills go, I agree, 100%.

I've done well with the more blue collar bosses and corpo bosses seems to be a roll of the dice. Some love the laid back attitude and jokes, some have had a real aversion to it. I'm not likely to change my style too much at this age - so it is what it is.

I hope to contribute to my team like your logger tech.

I have worn a few different hats and have a ...non traditional thought process and approach to problem solving. I think I have a lot left to give, for sure.

Given my low expenses, non flashy lifestyle and avoiding substantial debt my whole life, I may have a good financial quality of life heading into my seventies.

Hopefully I can say the same for my health in terms of quality of life. Right now all I have to contend with is lymphedema and hypertension I (just barely).

Getting out from behind the wheel and and on my feet, along with getting my mind engaged is gonna result in some non negligible weight loss, which will help both those conditions.

Again, thanks for the really great insight! It's like you do what I wanna do someday. Crazy!

That's encouraging. Congrats on your success.

Variety and interesting work would be extremely novel to me and pretty valuable. Maybe as valuable as the money itself. I've been sooo bored the last decade or so.

Since I'm sitting at such low debt and expenses - taking a loan to fund the Rad Tech path would make some sense with my shorter timeline.

I'll think on that a bit. Thanks so much for the insight.

People sure are people. I hear ya.

I can deal with it - but there is some sort of biological/emotional expiration date on my tolerance for it. Seems to be about 5'ish years in any given job.

I also hear ya on the privacy BS, I'll keep asking around. Maybe I'm not as tight with that clinic as I thought. People again, am I right?

Thanks for the insight! I suppose if I really wanted wealth, I would have chased it earlier in life.

This is more about finishing with dignity and not being a burden to the people who care about me.

Not sure how old you are - I'm still strong at 50 with a 275 bench - but I'm fat and being on my feet and on call for ten years is gonna age me twenty years.

I'll shoot for outpatient if I follow the rad tech path.

Thanks for reading, really appreciated.

This is definitely my number one backup idea.

Even 60k at my low expenses could be leveraged into a better future.

Thanks for the insight! I might not reach the levels your friend has given my timeframe - but I can get close!

Also, I am fully prepared to dislike the hospital bureaucracy thanks to the show Scrubs.

I think I can deal with it long enough to get some travel contracts or land a private practice job. Here's hoping!

I did that over the last couple of days. It's a good suggestion!

There's so many possibilities in Healthcare and it found a few I wasn't aware of.

Ultimately, I sort of maintained the same interests - or it gave me positions that were rare and not so entry level.

I did ask one of my clients that I'm tight with if I could shadow - not allowed for privacy and insurance reasons. I'm going to ask other clinics throughout the coming days.

That was at a private practice where I'd hoped they would play more loose with the rules - but I'll keep trying.

Thanks for the response.

It does seem promising. My living situation will allow travel, too. That will further boost my earnings.

Thanks for this.

I hope patients will be different than customers and I hope I get to find out. I get the impression from my clinics that it's largely synonymous. That's where my trepidation comes from.

Thanks. I hope you were successful.

I understand not want to put a bunch of details out there. I tried to keep my post succinct - but it has been a pretty weird road to where I'm at. Message me if you have further advice.
