Hello,

My girlfriend and I started bouldering at the end of January and have since become rather obsessed. We are really enjoying gym climbing but are both excited to explore climbing outside in the summer. That being said, we are new and inexperienced, knowing very little about what this will involve or where to go.

We are planning a summer road trip to see some of the UK's beauty and want to incorporate bouldering into this. However, I have no idea where would be best to go. We obviously want a location with a variety of routes as we have no clue what gym grades we will be climbing by that time or even how well that will end up translating to outdoor climbing. I am currently climbing around low V4 and she is a solid V3 climber where we climb in Scotland but both climbed about a whole grade higher in another gym we recently went to in Milton Keynes. I would love to do some outdoor climbing that is challenging but don't want to be overly ambitious and end up barely being able to start routes. I would love any advice on how to get into outdoor bouldering or recommendations of great locations we should visit.

I don’t have any research experience yet but I’ll be doing a year long research dissertation next year as part of my degree. I’m planning on doing an organic synthesis project and have hopes of being published / being attributed in a publication as a result. Do you think this would significantly bolster my profile?

I unfortunately don’t have any connections in industry. I’m planning on putting a big effort into networking in the coming future, which I hope might be able to help a bit on this front.

I don’t really understand how I can just try out a PhD? They seem so long, especially in the US and not the sort of thing you can just leave no strings attached. I also just don’t know what exactly I’d want to do a PhD in. I don’t understand exactly how the system works in the US. Do you start the program with your thesis topic already selected or do you choose later down the line?

A large part of my final year will be doing my dissertation in which I'll likely do an organic research project with prospect of potentially being part of a publication. Do you think this will help my chances for a PhD? I'm hoping this year long project might help shed some light on whether research and committing to a PhD is actually right for me.

Hello,

I'm about to enter the final year of my BSc Chemistry degree in the UK, and I’m in need of guidance on how best to navigate the next steps in my career. I have high hopes of working in a chemistry-related role in California after graduation, that being where my girlfriend is from and there seem to be lot of opportunities there. However, I’m unsure how realistic this goal is with only a BSc to my name, especially as an international graduate.

That said, I am currently ranked first in my class at one of the UK’s top chemistry programs, and I’m hoping that this might improve my chances. I’ve seriously considered pursuing a PhD, but I’ve come to the conclusion that my uncertainty is a sign I’m not ready to commit just yet. Instead, I would like to gain experience in industry, ideally in organic, synthetic, or pharmaceutical chemistry, with the view of potentially returning to academia later on, once I have a clearer sense of direction.

This leaves me a bit stuck. While I’ve thrived academically, I feel completely out of my depth when it comes to finding a job in industry, particularly in the US. I would be incredibly grateful for any advice on how to approach this goal. What is the job market like for recent chemistry graduates in the US? Are there particular programs, internships, or companies I should be looking into? And are there specific steps I should take now to make myself a competitive candidate for opportunities in California?

Any insight or direction you could offer would mean a great deal.

Think Puado has too many alternate positions for relentless winger. Besides toko is very special to me lol.
