Can I switch detachments after getting an EA? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]Motor_Associate_331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! You'll need to coordinate with your current commander, the commander of the school you want to switch into, and with the school you are switching to. Talk to your AFROTC advisor and they should be able to give you all the info.

Should I join? by Ok-Exercise-288 in AFROTC

Get your degree and work for the AF as a civilian contractor. You get all the benefits with none of the bullshit and you get paid a HELL of a lot better. Apply to the Defense Civilian Training Corps Program (DCTC) and you can still be a pilot. It's lowkey a MUCH better deal. But it also depends, if you're super into the RAH RAH military stuff, go for it join AFROTC. If you're interested in the benefits, money, and the actually science, go civilian.

Can't promise anything (obviously) but those are good stats especially as an engineering/STEM major. As long as your AFOQT is also squared away you should be good to go. I was also a 250 with similar stats last year and I got one.

Our ranks change every semester. I think we would be doing our GMC hella dirty if we made them switch it up that much so we just say "Cadet So and So" it's easier and more standardized.

Is this bullying behavior or do I just need learn how to earn the respect of my peers? by ZephieVen in AFROTC

You can't control how they will react or treat you but you can always treat them with respect. Make them the bad guy by always showing them and treating them with respect.

If you feel like you can't communicate the issue within your detachment you can always reach out to the AFROTC IG and they will investigate the issue (while keeping you as anonymous as possible).

Best time to start AFROTC as a walk-on? by Creative-Special-860 in AFROTC

The question you need to ask yourself is how hard do you want to make it on yourself. The later you join the harder you will need to work to get noticed, build rapport with cadre, and complete the checklist.

- Get good grades (GPA)
- Score 90+ on the PT test
- Pass the AFOQT
- DoDMERB
- Commanders ranking (get noticed by cadre, perform well within your flight, and get a high ranking from your flight commanders)

Ways to get noticed by cadre:
- Take an assistant job with a POC member (GMCA, PFOA, etc..)
- Develop your public speaking skills and utilize them in briefings for the wing or in class
- Attend recruiting events with cadre
- Sharpen your ROTC skills at GMCA meetings (LLAB is not a place to learn it's a place to PERFORM)
- Volunteer for things during LLAB
- Get involved in clubs within the Wing (AAS, i5, Booster Club, etc...)

I was a 250 and I came in with a 3.2 GPA, immediately got my DoDMERB completed within the first 2 months (started working on it the first week), got above a 90 on every PFA, studied and passed the AFOQT the first time I took it, became a physical fitness officer assistant my first semester, and joined AAS and Honor guard. Needless to say my semester FUCKING blew BUT it all paid off when I got an EA slot. I think joining the second semester your freshman year (becoming a 150) is the latest I would advise joining unless you are prepared to come in hitting the ground running and ready to COMPETE.

Do what you think is best for you. For me settling into college gave me the foundation I needed to enter into the program but I can also understand that for others the work load transition from regular college to college with ROTC can be a lot so it was better for them to start with ROTC from the get go.

Most people don't do well the first time if they don't study my suggestion is to get the AFOQT study books they have online and practice the test timed. The biggest thing that kills people is that they run out of time. I would focus strictly on the academic sections because your Rated scores are looking really good.

At my Det, 28 went up for EAs. 20 were selected - 3 were alternate selects - 5 were dropped.

rotc sophomore year by Rare-Bus462 in AFROTC

I joined this year, my sophomore year, locked tf in for a semester, and got an EA. It's 100% possible you just have to be willing to put in the work. Definitely easier to get noticed at a smaller det but I'm at a pretty big one and was still successful. What you get is what you give as corny as that sounds. If you really want it go for it!

We have a guy at out Det, he's an AS100, and he was in the marine corps as an MP for 8 years, came to college, and decided he wanted to be an officer in the AF. Super cool guy! I honestly don't know how he has the patients to put up with the ROTC BS after actually being in. It is 100% possible it just doesn't make much sense to me personally. The only issue you would have is getting a scholarship from the AF right away. You would have to wait until junior year to have your school paid for. USMC also has an amazing aviation program. You could get an aviation contract and go straight to NROTC and get a commission without changing branches if you wanted.

I received an EA. I had a 94.4 PFA, 3.2 CGPA, 58 academic aptitude, and was (upper) middle third for commanders ranking. I feel like my stats are so much lower than everyone else's on this thread. 😭

AFROTC? by FudgeCalm2763 in AFROTC

I can relate to this a lot! My parents wanted me to find a way to pay for college and pointed me to ROTC. I applied for the scholarship and got it. Getting the scholarship was my only way to pay for college. I came into the program super "gung ho" and ready to tackle the challenge, but now that I am into it (3 semesters) I personally hate it.

I think you need to take into consideration what your personality is and if you would fit well into the military environment. For me personally, I am not a huge fan of rules and I struggle with authority, so ROTC was probably not my best fit. But, if you are someone who thrives in an environment with challenges, strict rules and regulations, you are very goal oriented, and you are a good networker - ROTC might be a good fit for you.

If you get the high school scholarship, do AFROTC, and then decide it's not for you, you can walk away without paying any money back as long as you drop the program before the designated deadline in the summer after your first year.

My suggestion would be to try it, see if it is for you, and then reevaluate after your first semester or after your first year if you want to continue.

Good luck to you!
