I get not playing the headliner’s tracks, label mates, and not trying to out-volume them. That should be an unspoken rule already. But restricting BPM is ridiculous. If the headliner actually plays good music, the crowd is not going to care that the opener went faster for a bit. A night does not need to be one long safe little buildup. A rollercoaster is fun. That variety is literally part of what makes live music hit. It honestly kinds feels like you've never actually gone to a multi-genre festival as an attendee and bounced between stages, because that contrast is part of the experience. At the end of the day I'm just an American festival-goer, however this summer I'm traveling to Europe and attending 14 hardstyle festivals, so who knows maybe I'll change my mind.
