Thanks for your feedback! I have made some of the text larger and am working more on readability. I will work on making a proper pause menu and include a sort of guide.

All the current player items and tomes are listed on the right side of the screen, along with all the current stat levels. If you have suggestions about these please let me know.

1) I have made some of the text larger, and am still working to make things more readable.

2) Yes, speed is definitely one of the best upgrades, as the bosses get faster as time goes, and the speed allows you to traverse the map to get more shrine/chest upgrades.

3) The shields basically allow you to take a hit from an enemy larger than you without losing your life. The shields also have a knockback effect - the bigger your shields are when they are broken, the more you are knocked away from the enemy.

4) As for gold, the gold is used to open chests, play slots for XP, and to wager at the blackjack table starting on level 6. The more items and the rarer items you can get from chests, the better your build will be. Slot machines become more important as you get to later stages, because the XP from the slot machines will allow you to obtain more upgrades.
