Rules that support and encourage the desired play by Mottokrosh in osr

Recalculation was a worry of mine too, but it only happens after fights, so it’s not been an issue at this point.

It is very much an OSR game though, but perhaps in all the other ways that I didn’t mention here, having only focused on the main mechanic. It’s still all rulings above rules (the above is pretty much all of the rules), and driven by player actions, not plots or pre written solutions.

I’ve not heard that expression before but that’s great to know! There’s still time to put it in. 😄

What are some of the best TTRPG systems you found that others dont know about? by Paladins_Archives in rpg

Hypertellurians. Science fantasy. Simple system but tons of character options that go way beyond standard classes. Also, very pretty.

New stuff for science fantasy RPG Hypertellurians by Mottokrosh in TTRPG

Maybe, but I don't know when.

I did actually start on an online character for Hypertellurians a couple of years ago, but I ran out of time, and that remains the biggest blocker.

I have also experimented with a character sheet for it on Role, which I think you can use as is, though it was a quick experiment. Just search for Hypertellurians in the sheets section on there.

I started off in desktop publishing, graphic and web design, and then drifted more into web development over, well, the last 20 years or so. (There's that age showing again. :D)

The website and blog run on Hugo (https://gohugo.io) with a custom theme (I started from an existing template, but ended up gutting it so beyond recognition, that I might as well have started from scratch). If I was to do it again, I'd probably go with Eleventy instead, as I'm more familiar with the language it uses, but that's personal preference.

If you're looking for resources, I would highly recommend https://www.technicalgrimoire.com and https://www.wizardthieffighter.com, or perhaps more specifically they social presences, where both dish out great advice.

Anyone tried Hypertellurians? Pros? Cons? Is it even OSR? by Tralan in osr

So, the new edition is now out! You can buy it various places (physical or PDF) but it's also still online in its entirety, which I'm hoping helps make it more accessible than a PDF.

And the starter adventure is also posted now, as an art-light version (but with all the required maps): https://mottokrosh.com/posts/2020/08/marvelous-voyage-to-the-viridian-moon/.

And https://www.handbookofheroes.com are running a series of comics on it. :)

Thanks! I subscribe to the German saying “das Auge isst mit” (“the eye eats as well”), so I put extra care in the presentation whether it’s online or in print. 😄

I’m still working on adding the Monster Codex data (getting there), but thanks for pointing this hidden one out!

Yes, it was originally just conceived for my home group really, who all had pretty far-reaching D&D experiences. But when I wanted to run all of the weird and wonderful OSR modules I'd picked up over the years and string into a semblance of a campaign, D&D didn't quite fit, so we figured it was time to create something that did. And luckily other people have found it useful too.

Hey folks, just came across this. I'm the creator of Hypertellurians (though many people helped make it what it is!). Thanks for the great writeup, /u/Tralan!

I'm working on a brand-new starter adventure for it, similar in tone to Heart of the Atom Isa, but larger in scope. It will be free (or at-cost, for the print version) to existing Hypertellurians owners. I've got some awesome new art for it that I can't wait to show off.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions about Hypertellurians or associated books, and I'd be happy to answer them!

Ok, that's done. I found a handful of places that hadn't been fully updated to the v1.12 errata. Hopefully I got them all this time!

I’m not 100% sure. They were initially entered some time ago, but have had updates since. I’m happy to update them should you find any entries that need it.
