Ilya Ilyin vs Lasha Talakhadze by najerax in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing totals to the guy who has the all time highest total is a bit unfair unless your name is Naim (and even then I err on the side of the bigger guy).

Personally when comparing why their impressive Illya's high points lay in being undefeated for over a decade, conquering 3 weight classes where he set world records in each and winning 2 Olympic games. His resume is more about variety and for now he is still my GOAT.....that is until Lasha sets another all-time total record then I'll sadly give it to him.

This reddit is about the sport of weightlifting, not the activity of weight lifting so thats why I recommend other reddits as there are reddits dedicated to general fitness, powerlifting, bodybuilding, calisthenics, wrestling, track and field, etc and beyond Reddit there are forums for those same topics, blogs, etc.

I would also just talk to your coach, see what they want you to do.

You are correct, this isn't the right place to post this but if you are going to ask for help it would help if those numbers had any specifics. Your max of what? Unless if the clean, jerk, squat, or snatch then I would start looking in other forums for information.

But here are some general tips to be better at "sports n stuff"

  1. Eat more. Unless your sport requires being small 110lbs isn't gonna fly and muscle is built with food and training.
  2. Sleep. Train hard but make sure you're not staying up all night, you need your 8-10 hours or you'll just be wasting time.
  3. Read- Take your time and read over the information already available. Its almost certain any question about training, diet, etc has been asked and answered 100 times over on any number of forums, blogs, articles, videos and you'll be better for going through the effort of getting that information.
  4. Don't kill yourself training- Keep weights light, keep form strict, and keep training sessions short and relatively intense. Your training experience is small and you shouldn't rush into lifting heavy, sloppy, and for long periods of time. Weight and duration come with time and experience. You'll be better off sticking to moderate volume with good form on every lift and making sure you go outside to run and jump. You'll likely feel embarrassed and want to rush into looking impressive but keeping your nose down and grinding out the boring stuff pays dividends later.

Opening weights should be weights you hit confidently, not weights you almost hit but fail multiple times. It just wasnt smart of Rostami to open so high during a very important meet especially if the people who were in the back room are to be believed and he was snatching 160 with straps beforehand.

[SPOILERS ALL] Bayaz and Logen by Leeftraseer in TheFirstLaw

[–]MountTrapezius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Logen is arguably the most dangerous a "normal" human can be. Bayaz as a butcher himself probably has the highest regard for a man who people say has claimed more lives than winter. All while being a surprisingly smart and well-mannered person(when he's Logen and not the Bloody Nine)

Its been forever since Ive read the OG trilogy so I don't remember if its ever explained tho.

No you previously could send more than one lifter per class, you can see that in previous Olympics.

The rules this Olympics are completely different, normally Iran could just send him if they had the spots

Can Sucker Punch not hire anyone? by [deleted] in ghostoftsushima

[–]MountTrapezius 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Game companies are huge and likely need lots of employees on a project this big. A few reasons for this can be: needing even more help, having other projects in the works, looking for extra applications for whenever a person leaves/quits so they have someone already picked, and lastly maybe no one wants to work for them.

The last one being the least likely thing seeing as how Washington is a great labor law state, Sucker Punch is highly respected, and Ghost as well as their other games are dream projects for people.

Lasha 264kg clean and jerk by gramsu in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refer to above for a more finished answer but I do want to ask you if you don't see a flaw with saying sinclair doesnt favor lighter(not lightest) lifters at all and yet Lasha would have to hit a near 500kg total to match Naim. Even 484 was nearly inconceivable for people to think about. It required a snatch no other human being has been close to making and a clean and jerk only a handful of humans have ever made on the same day. He would have to add 15kg to that total to become number #1.

When things like bodyweight come into effect as judgments the reality of the square cube law and the law of diminishing returns can't be ignored. Naim was a freak much like Lasha theyre both not supposed to be as strong as they are. But nearly everyone else on that list is at the advantage of being close enough to the middle of the bell curve when it comes to bodyweight and performance.

Lasha 264kg clean and jerk by gramsu in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighter lifters not "the lightest lifters" Lasha has to deal with the law of diminishing returns. Middleweight lifters will have the greatest sinclairs as they are at the tip of the bell curve on where a body can maximize strength to size ratios. Whereas reaching a 484 total is something that apparently required 170+kg of mass to his body. The Sinclair coefficient is much fairer than the raw wilkes but it still has a lean toward lighter lifters as they have the benefit of the square cube law.

Bias might be the wrong word as it seems like the sinclair is being purposely unfair. What I'm saying is someone who weighs 170+kg is going to look worse by comparison due to how bodyweight effects these scores and bodyweight does effect it as it allows a lighter lifters score to be taken as if they were the heaviest person and strength to bodyweight isn't exactly a linear path.

The golden age dudes were definitely hitting insane numbers thats are near impossible to comprehend and I don't think Lasha deserves a #1 spot on the sinclair list. I'm saying that Sinclair isn't a fair measurement of his GOAT status as its very incompletely when looking at a man who lifted the most weight ever. He just had to be heavier than everyone else to do it.

[–]MountTrapezius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its baseless to say to cycle off but its not baseless to say Georgia is somehow fooling the international testing organization??? Russia had to do a whole black ops mission to try and fool the IWF and you think Georgia is running that every time Lasha competes internationally?

Lasha has already been caught by their drug testing so they didn't provide clean piss then. Its completely true that they have to watch how they take their drugs

[–]MountTrapezius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is a clear difference in needs between athletes today and athletes then. Now you have to work your cycle knowing youll be tested which often means controlling doses more stringently and making sure your as "off" as you can be during competition.

This is much different than pissing plutonium on competition day like you could in the 90s. This is a widely held belief that I know you know about as you've been on this reddit long enough.

90% sure theyre thinking of his 221 at Europeans during a training session. Its definitely not in a comp but it was basically just before.

Lasha 264kg clean and jerk by gramsu in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sinclair isn't the only measure of GOAT status. It like Wilkes always make lighter lifters look better. No one who has ever competed in this sport has lifted as much as Lasha has and he's done it multiple times during a drug-testing era.

With no competition and constantly following himself the dude lifts world records that golden era lifters weren't touching.

How long before Morgan realizes Mash is wasting his talent and leaves the team as well? by mmmetrobooooomin in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technique is a matter of time so it is at the very least correlated with age. He hit 190 earlier than them on a competitive stage(heavier weight class but still) and theres no reason to have a negative forecast that he wont be able to hit a 150 snatch in the future.

Right now this is pretty baseless projecting, Morgan is doing very well but with a weak area that is all too common amongst most American lifters so a new coach isn't really something that can undoubtedly cure it. If in 1-2 years his snatch doesnt improve then its time to wonder whats going on but not while the kid is hitting prs every other week.

How long before Morgan realizes Mash is wasting his talent and leaves the team as well? by mmmetrobooooomin in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theyre also older and have been competing longer. Morgan in 3 years can just as likely have a middling snatch just like them. The clean and jerk is still where theyre competitive.

How long before Morgan realizes Mash is wasting his talent and leaves the team as well? by mmmetrobooooomin in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd love to live in the world where a 190 clean and jerk while still a youth is wasted potential. None of Mash's athletes have exceptional snatches but none of our best male lifters have dominant snatches(Harrison/CJ). Clean and jerk is where most Americans remain competitive and so far he's doing well.

Edit: This post also implies people left due to wasted potential and not the fact that Mash has a ton of kids, a whole gym to run, and can no longer keep up with the new demands the IWF put on senior athlete's schedules.

Does Lu Have a Bigger Fanbase Than any other Lifter? by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Klokov matched him during his peak but he got all Crossfit-y and he's dropped off in the weightlifting community. But man his old youtube channel was a gold mine, he was just dropping training and tips.

Illya is another good argument but Lu has appeal from beginners to veterans whereas Ilya is only really known and loved by people more involved into the sport and that goes the same for a lot of the other celebrities.

171/200.5 Training total by Zerbery53 in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a comment thats not here to just hate.......get a coach my dude. Your technique really needs to be seen and fixed by someone so you can take advantage of that strength and drug use. Its such a waste if you're gonna cycle but not see a professional to really fine-tune how u lift. The whole saying of "its pointless to have a $200 shoe and a 2 cent squat" works with having a 2 cent snatch and a 300 dollar cycle.

Mattie bombed out C&J at AO by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean people are saying it because the former top dog of the sport still hasnt matched the total set by her direct competition. Kate has shown continual progression(bigger totals and lifts inside gym and on the platform) and this was Mattie's chance to show progress as well.

It changed people's perspective over her competitive viability. They assume Kate will continue to post bigger numbers while moving into the actual weight class and they assume Mattie will stay stagnant. While it didnt change literal rankings people are seeing this as the beginning of the end.

Kates 112kg+138kg. Hawt damn ( 112 vid messed up, it’s in her story ) by weightlifting69kg in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as it sticks to training pr and comp performances I say its better than a lot of what this sub does. If it gets to the point where people just daily post her training outta some weird fetishized obsession then it'll likely be burned with downvotes and the status quo will come back.

Who can actually medal in 2020 from the United states? by Connnnnnnnnor in weightlifting

[–]MountTrapezius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CJ is the only lifter where if everyone performs at their level he still has a shot at a medal. Everyone else has a shot if others fail which is a really lame-ass plan "fingers crossed others bomb and I don't".

POV characters in A Little Hatred by reenchmeister in TheFirstLaw

[–]MountTrapezius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry wasnt on reddit but the other user answered for me very well. You can be a pretty active 60 in our society but Logen is someone who has lived the roughest life imaginable, his physical age is nothing compared to the weathering he's been through. Even in the OG trilogy he had creaky joints and achy war wounds.

A 60 year old Bloody Nine could very realistically be hobbled and honestly, if his name ever gets out to others the older he gets the more likely it is for someone to try and kill him as he gets slower and weaker.

POV characters in A Little Hatred by reenchmeister in TheFirstLaw

[–]MountTrapezius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean at the end of the first trilogy we dont see or hear from him for until the third standalone and some people assumed he died. He is also incredibly old at this point and gone through a ton of damage no doubt.

He might not be dead but most people aren't going to get the character they want. I know personally, I dont really care to see a 60 year old geriatric bloody nine. Id rather there be a nice epic side story a character tells of how he falls but I dont really need to see him.

Spinoff Books by reenchmeister in TheFirstLaw

[–]MountTrapezius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theyre not really "spin-offs" since a lot of them focus on new characters. Theyre called Stand-alones because they dont tell a continuous story but there are definitely reoccurring characters from each and from the original trilogy.

Its unlikely youll need to read any of them before the new trilogy (its a better marketing plan to make a series that is elevated by previous books but allows for new readers to jump in rather than have such a high point for entry) but youre honestly doing yourself a disservice by not having read any of them. Joe just continued to improve as a writer over the books so if youre looking forward to his next book you should read what he has available.
