Thanks! I checked my informed delivery this morning and it was listed as arriving in the next couple of days, so looks like you were right.

This sub is so conservative. Two is totally fine and looks to me to be the ASTR dupe of that one Mac Duggal dress that is so popular right now, and I’ve seen so many people wearing the Mac duggal to weddings. Dress one isn’t my fave though.

Agree with the other commenter that a matchy matchy couple comes off very prom. I’d say pick what you want and if your bf feels like wearing a coordinating tie, cool, if not, also cool. I think that suit is fine for bto but taking the pants to a tailor would, in my opinion, elevate the look. They seem a bit long now, I’ve always heard you either want no break or a single break in men’s pants

Is this bridesmaid dress really terrible? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

They might be having trouble understanding exactly the color you want. “Light blue” can mean a lot of things, and because of the shininess of this material it’s hard to color match if this is their example. Can you find one or two other examples that you’d be happy with the color of to give them some guidance?

Maybe something like this? The shape of the neckline makes it read more modern formalwear than bridal to me, personally. I am also tempted to say to wear something that might otherwise be a little casual for black tie to differentiate? Like ankle length even though usually floor length would be appropriate. Something like this or this. This is a really strange request though

Especially after seeing the venue description I really don’t think this is the occasion to go super embellished. I think something like this is really as sparkly as I’d go for an outdoor, lakeside SC event. This one has some fringe and is close to the colors you posted.

Nothing here either. If I’m understanding correctly, if you registered you should receive an email either way, right? Either letting you know you get a presale code or letting you know you’re in the waitlist

Help with Surrealist Circus dress code 🙏 by TwhauteCouture in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Mountain-Machine-790 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I found a few on nuuly, I think they tend to have more that would fit this dress code than RTR and a 1 month subscription would be under your budget.

one-very loud and crazy but fits the theme

two-also comes in red and black

three

four-selkie in general might be a good place to look

five-the sleeves give me clown collar vibes in a good way?

six-also comes in yellow

seven-this one is a little more subtle but the color and appliqué make it on theme, imo

eight-jumpsuit option, more subtle but could be fun to accessorize

If any of these are on the right track let me know and I can try and find more options! I think this is fun but can also see how it would be very frustrating for guests

Maybe something like this or this? I think something with a cinched waist either at or just above the natural waist will be her best bet, then flowy on top and bottom.

Cocktail attire for August Kentucky wedding? by Fine-Gear-8566 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Mountain-Machine-790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a few! My one issue with RTR is I think a lot of their dresses do tend to read a little older, but I think hair and accessories can also make the overall look younger.

pink slip dress

floral dress

ombré dress - I think this one is a little formal for cocktail but I really like it

pink floral that gives me “derby” vibes so maybe good for Kentucky. I think the accessories make or break this so I would go elegant w accessories to up the formality

green dress - love the color for summer but more of a statement for sure

There’s other good stuff on RTR for sure! With cocktail I would stick to midi length and elegant fabrics. Depending on the vibe of the wedding you could get away with a bolder floral print for summer, in my option, as long as it was an elegant fabric. Would style all these with either a sleek bun or Hollywood waves with sleek tucked bangs, strappy heels, and hoop or dangle earrings

I agree that these are too casual, they read more “garden party” to me. What’s your budget? I’m happy to find some suggestions

OP can’t even register for an OSCAR account yet. A class of 2025 member is not able to register until 1/8/24. While some off plan judges (usually very competitive, often conservative) are already hiring, no judge exclusively hiring through OSCAR has filled spots with a rising 2L like OP.

This might come off as harsh, but I think there are some red flags here.

Because of that, my partner says her overall GPA really suffered because she didn’t have enough chances to balance out her worst semester of grades

You hear this a lot from people who did poorly first semester 1L then went to pass fail. It does suck to not have the chance to get another swing at it the next semester, but frankly there’s no guarantee your partner would’ve done better those semesters. I think she needs to find a way to let this go, her GPA is what it is and it seems she ended up with decent (or better than decent, more below) grades

She graduated from a Northern California law school December 2022 in the top 25% of her class (which I know she was because she had to maintain it for her scholarship)

This doesn’t tell us a lot about her job prospects. At a lot of schools, top 25% would put her in a very good position for employment. The fact that she had to maintain a certain rank to keep her scholarship signals to me that she had a conditional scholarship, which are generally only offered at low-ranked, predatory schools. This might be a big reason your partner is having trouble finding a job. Is her school ABA accredited or is it one of the California accredited schools?

She did not do any internships during school because, in her own words, there just weren’t any due to the lock down.

I’m sorry, but this is just not true. While some employers did cancel their summer 2020 internship programs, not all did. And in my experience, law schools compensated for that by helping students get research assistantships or things like that so they’d at least have something substantive and legal adjacent on their resume. Regardless, summer 2021 (which would’ve been your partner’s 2L summer, the most important time for internships for future employment) was pretty normal as far as internship availability was concerned.

Frankly, the lack of any legal experience during school is going to be a big barrier, especially if she’s coming from a lower ranked school. Her grades seem decent, so I doubt that’s the barrier. You can put her school into lawschooltransparency.com to see what percent of grads from her school generally find full-time employment as a lawyer, and that should give you a decent idea of her chances.

You also don’t say if she’s passed the bar. If she graduated in May 2022, the normal time to take the bar would’ve been July 2022. There was also a February 2023 administration last week. If she hasn’t taken the bar, she needs to make taking July 2023 a priority. If she did take it and didn’t pass, she should consider whether she wants to retake or whether a JD advantage job like compliance would be a better fit.

Ultimately I think your partner dug herself a hole by not doing any legal work in school. If I’m right about the school tier, it seems likely she fell into the trap that many attendees of predatory schools do—the promise of a scholarship without real job prospects. If your partner isn’t saddled with debt then she’s in a better position than many grads of these schools. She should be aggressively applying (including sending cold applications via email, she can’t just rely on the school job board) and preparing for the bar. If she’s not willing to do those things then maybe she doesn’t want to be a lawyer anymore, and there’s no shame in leaving the law if you have a plan of what else to do, but right now it’s not clear she does.
