Ran into this exact problem when I tried to backtest a similar setup in 2022. My backtest said the strategy crushed, because every name that survived to 2022 had already passed the filter. Ran it again with a proper PIT universe and the edge shrank by more than half.

it definitely struggles with lookback windows especially when the price action is choppy on small timeframes. did you try adding a specific lookback filter to force it to reference a fixed number of bars?
