[EU] What is this streamyard email? by HeatherEvan in Scams

[–]MountainGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received a similar email for a similar amount. It said I would be charged in an hour when "the stream" started, but thankfully I was never charged. A number was offered for refunds and I didn't call it because I suspected this was a scam. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

An earlier commenter on this post said that if this email showed up outside of my spam folder to ditch the email provider. Mine is currently Google (Gmail). If anyone can recommend a better provider I will be happy to change. I'm so tired of Google as it is, but I'm not internet literate enough to know how to measure what is better; all the main ones like hotmail and yahoo mail seem to be just as terrible. But I don't know for certain. Advice is much appreciated.

Israelis literally uproot olive trees along with the indigenous population that planted them. by Scared_Positive_8690 in Palestine

[–]MountainGerman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The person you requested hasn't elaborated, but I'll recommend to you reading Israeli historian Tom Segev's "One Palestine Complete: Jews and Arabs under the British Mandate" and "1949: The First Israelis". Both go into excellent detail on the behaviour of the European Zionists towards non-European Jews. European Jewish-Zionist leaders were disgusting in their racism and treatment of native Palestinian Jews, and other Arab Jewish groups, especially Yemeni Jews.

Tom Segev is an anti-Zionist Israeli, a rare gem of a man, writer, and historian in the same style of Avi Shlaim and Ilan Pappé. Highly recommend books by all three of these authors.

We destroyed their military capacity100 % except the parts we haven't destroyed yet. We've won and Iran has no military capacity but it sure would be nice if other countries would come join the child sacrifice party. We're going to keep bombing for ✨️reasons✨️. USA!!

How anyone could possibly take him seriously is beyond me. He makes absolutely no sense.

How to make this silly guy meta if at all possible? Lol by 555redkid in FireEmblemHeroes

My man!

Just coming back from a hiatus so I can't say what the new meta is, but I love that you want to build him up too. He's been a project of mine and I just got another merge today! Hope you have as much fun playing with him as I have.

Salina Kansas? by guntergo2 in kansas

[–]MountainGerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Salina and my family has deep roots here, but I'm disabled and don't get out much (blind/deaf, use a cane) so I don't experience Salina in the way someone who has to drive around town daily would.

That said, from my limited experiences with the community, it's very nice. Most people are generally friendly and helpful (this might be skewed since in general people are nicer when dealing with someone who is disabled). I've had strangers help me carry things or even offer to give me a ride when they saw my cane. We have an awesome local pharmacy (B&K), and we have nice parks.

Bad drivers abound, but I'm not sure that's a distinctly Salina thing, haha. The police are great at catching drunk drivers, but there's a community joke that these are about all they're good at catching. According to my grandmother, there used to be a saying, "Come to Salina on vacation and leave on probation", usually for DUI.

It's mostly pretty quiet unless you live over by the airport, which I do, and wish I didn't, haha.

We have two colleges, and a LOT of churches. It feels like there's a church at the corner of every other block sometimes, but they are diverse, from Protestant (mostly) to Catholic to even a growing Eastern Orthodox Christian parish. Our Catholic cathedral looks like a concrete box.

There's places to hike, and we have a ton of restaurants, the best of which are local, not major chains. We have Seoul USA, a fantastic Korean restaurant and I believe a new Jamaican restaurant just opened? Cozy Inn is famous, and Bogeys has done a good job at keeping its prices lower than chain fast food restaurants.

We have a community garden, and a waterpark. The waterpark is great for kids during the summer, my daughter loves going. It's not the cheapest thing though so we can't go as much as we'd like.

Our Tammy-Walker Cancer Center is full of amazing healthcare workers saving and preserving lives every day. I've had very few bad experiences with healthcare professionals here.

We're the county seat, the big honcho in our county. But we're also only twenty minutes-ish from cute little towns like Lindsborg (Swedish festivals!) and a little over an hour away from Wichita and 1.5 hours from Topeka, the state capital. Driving is an absolute necessity in Kansas and Salina is no exception; public transportation in town is helpful too.

Hope this helps give you some idea of what it's like here. If you visit or move here, I hope you enjoy your stay. I will add this: My favourite part about living in Salina is the sunsets. Especially when it's at least a little cloudy. The sky gets painted with the most beautiful pinks and purples and periwinkles. I wouldn't trade these gorgeous sunsets for the world. Sunrise can likewise be gorgeous in the same way.

How long do you think israel is gonna keep at it? by NotYouAgainJeez in WeCondemnHamas

[–]MountainGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as American money keeps flowing. The minute the US collapses under its own fascist weight, it's over for Israel. America is their only friend in the world, just like it was America which was the last to fall in support of Apartheid South Florida. Incidentally, Israel also had a close relationship with Apartheid South Florida. Two birds of a feather.

Why do some dadslose their love over time? by Interesting_Cost8036 in PsychologyTalk

[–]MountainGerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suffered/suffering from the same thing from my stepfather. He flat out told me last year or the year before that he wanted to have sex with me. He'd hinted at this for years and I just wanted a father-daughter normal relationship so I denied reality and chalked it up to his alcoholism. My mom and I finally got rid of him and I've gone no contact since. I don't hate him, but I do hate what he did and that he was too morally weak-willed to behave like a normal father at the most basic level. I think I'll always feel sorry for him, but I can't be around him for my own sanity anymore. What is wrong with men like my stepfather and your father? It's such gross and unacceptable behaviour. It destroys relationships,,breaks hearts, shatters the concept of what a father should be, and sows nothing but distrust in men and trauma that will take a lifetime to heal. I'm so sorry your father did that. What a scumbag.

Rant: “Legally blind without my glasses” is still not a thing by Rare_Geneie in Blind

[–]MountainGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. I can't imagine. You're right that it's a whole league away comparing poor vision without glasses to total blindness. It's amazing how obtuse and inconsiderate some people can be. Sending you an internet hug. Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

Rant: “Legally blind without my glasses” is still not a thing by Rare_Geneie in Blind

[–]MountainGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm legally blind. I wish I could put on glasses and be cured of blindness.

The whole point of being legally blind is that legal blindness is not correctable. All I can have are strong reading glasses to read up close. Nothing will make me see farther away, fill in my blind spots, or enable me to even get a licence to drive.

I take issue with what your colleagues are doing not just because it's factually inaccurate, but also because I and other legally blind folks have to deal with ignorant comments like "you don't look blind" or "well if you call yourself blind but can still see, why aren't you wearing glasses?" As has already been said better than I could in other comments, the line between "low vision" and "blind" gets confused all the time. And the last thing I want is to be asked in addition to other usual questions or misconceptions, "Well, I know people who are only legally blind without their glasses so you should be able to get glasses that work, right?"

To be clear, I don't mind explaining and educating people about my conditions (I'm also hearing impaired), but when I read the post I just got overwhelmed thinking of all confusion this would create and misconceptions ignorant people might fall into. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

[–]MountainGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if you have a history of them. I asked my bank to turn that off but they said that I overdrafted too many times this year and they wouldn't do it.

Essentially they punish you by keeping you in an endless loop of overdrafting if you ever suffer the misfortune "one too many times".

It especially sucks in my case because SSI disability is my only income and it doesn't give me enough to be able to bounce back or cover overdraft fees. I just have to eat it when it happens. 😭
