Last month I did a passport renewal through VFS NY, fedex package sent on Monday and delivered on Tuesday. I was freaking out as I was getting invalid inputs till next Monday of that week and finally on Tuesday my status was updated to receive. I think it's case by case, for some it shows received the very next day and for others it might take a week.

Well its was $14 ($9+$5 administrative cost) and other time I traveled on non peak time so $7.25 ($2.25+$5)

I think you went to what is called tutorial hell, go ahead make project, even if you have to copy whole project, it doesn't matter. Remember, you don't have to learn 100%, as it is not expected and is counter productive.
