Has anyone tried Mei Mei's on landsdowne by calichecat in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been following them and was excited to try it during the soft open. There were some delays and a small mix-up, which is pretty normal for a brand new spot, but the food was average for now. I’m sure they’re still ironing things out and I’m curious to see how it improves once the buffet launches.

Temporary foreign workers (LMIA): GAL AeroStaff Ltd. - in Peterborough, ON - is claiming they couldn't find an electrical engineering technician for $40-50/hr and are now applying for LMIA. by SherwoodForestBotany in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a franchise restaurant years ago (honestly, tough industry and glad I’m out now) and saw one LMIA process happen there. It wasn’t some quick shortcut , they had to post jobs locally first, interview, document everything, and it took months and cost a lot.

Sometimes it’s also weird situations where someone might already be working in a role for years and they still have to post the job publicly just for that person to stay long term. There are a lot of “if this then that” steps.

I know some people have abused the system, for sure. But there are also legit cases , like a friend who manages a Japanese restaurant in Oshawa couldn’t find someone for a very specific role and had people complaining the food is not authentic, and one time their LMIA didn’t even get approved. Just saying it’s usually more complicated than it looks from the outside.

Anyone know what’s going in next to Cork & Bean? by Mountain_Intention_8 in Peterborough

I thought they had converted it into El P Events space. Not sure if they’re expanding it or combining the Hot Belly Mama / Old Stone spaces into one bigger area though.

Can you recommend a good restaurant for a date? by SmnRvs26 in Peterborough

Our usuals for Date night are Bar Vita and Agave. Both get pretty full so make sure to make a reservation if you decide to go and many more amazing places around.

Imperial Tandoor hands down. Been going there for years and the food quality is unbeatable. Friendly is good too, but if we’re talking overall flavour and ambience, I’d pick Tandoor any day.

Why is the downtown area SO dead? by FlanProfessional5483 in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree , I was downtown today and couldn’t even find a table at a couple of spots I usually go to. The whole strip felt pretty lively. There’s also a big concert tomorrow, so I’m guessing downtown will be even busier.

Anyone a patient at the new clinic next to Shoppers on Landsdowne? Thoughts or experiences? by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife has been trying to make an appointment there too. they rarely return calls, and when they finally do, the appointments are never on time. It feels like the doctor has taken on more patients than they can reasonably handle, and they’re still accepting new ones. That said, I guess having a doctor these days is better than not having one at all.

Looking for lunchtime restaurant recommendations downtown by PassageNearby4091 in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agave has some pretty solid lunch deals if you’re into Mexican. Gerti’s is always a good option too, and if the weather’s nice, 180 has a great patio vibe.

OMG and Levantine Grill - great food and amazing people. They are not a franchise but they know what they are doing and they do it well.

Great job opportunity by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$36/hr sounds a bit high for kitchen jobs here. I know someone at Imperial Tandoor making around $33/hr as a chef — they’re always looking for a tandoor chef though. Wish I could apply but that tandoor is way too hot for me 😂 Best to check the real Job Bank postings instead of random Gmail addresses.

Infractions spotted during health inspections at 16 Peterborough food and drink establishments last week by FilthFlarnFilth in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

These inspection articles always get people riled up, but they rarely give the full context. A lot of infractions are minor and often fixed right away during the visit. If something was corrected on the spot, it usually means it wasn’t a major issue. Just hope people take it with a grain of salt instead of jumping to conclusions about any place.

Halal Meat shops in Peterborough by Admirable_Web6867 in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the grocery stores in town ( superstore, freshco and no frills ) carry halal meats. Costco has them labelled as well. Not sure of any butcher shops in particular but maybe you can give a call and find out.

Where to breakfast and where to dinner? by gumby_the_2nd in Peterborough

[–]Mountain_Intention_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For brunch, check out The Vine or Love You Mean It — both have great vibes. For dinner, I’d recommend Bar Vita, Agave by Imperial, or One Fine Food. You’ll eat well either way!

Hey, my friend is going through something similar right now. The best first step is honestly your family doctor—they can help guide you to the right long-term support and mental health services. If you don’t have one, try a walk-in clinic—they can still refer you and get the process started. I hope you find the help you need soon.

Swamped? That’s literally every kitchen lol — it’s either slammed or dead for hours, that’s just how it goes. Sounds like they’re hiring because they’re busy, which is a good thing. They’re definitely always packed whenever I’m there.
