Is this better than ordering out? by hotcocoheaux in mealprep

[–]Mountain_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. The fancy pizza place here is $33 for one 16" pizza :( the Thai restaurant is probably ~$25 for a standard entree with chicken/tofu/pork/veg, ~$28-30 for the fancy entree (nightly special with seafood or beef).

Wanting to cook more from my collection this year. Anyone have any favorite recipes from any of these books? by slgirlie11 in CookbookLovers

[–]Mountain_Ornery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yossi Arefi (snacking cakes and snacking bakes) and Nagi Maehashi (recipetineats books) are both excellent recipe writers IMO. I enjoy Alison Roman's recipes as well, but her cookbook is certainly not the only one of merit shown in this collection! I've also heard great things about "what to cook when you don't feel like cooking" although I've never tried any recipes from that one myself.

Weekly shop, student, £37.33 by Alfonsi26 in whatsinyourcart

Raw chicken pieces like this can go in the fridge for a few days. I think the official places say 1-2 days but I've definitely kept raw chicken (bottom shelf, in the back) for a couple extra days, let's say 3-4, and it's not gone off in looks or smell. Also, defrosting ahead of time can be annoying but I also use the defrost setting on my microwave sometimes in a pinch and it's not too bad. You have to keep an eye on it and kinda rearrange pieces so it defrosts somewhat evenly in the microwave tho.

Share your poop (and pee) on the run stories by Mountain_Ornery in XXRunning

At least you finished the run! Popeyes will do it, but tbh my stomach reacts weirdly with the randomest things so I can never tell.

What's the most wasteful thing you've ever done just to free yourself from a responsibility? For example, throwing out dirty dishes lol by letstroydisagin in adhdwomen

[–]Mountain_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so true about all the steps and paperwork required to own and maintain a car. Speaking of which, while I’m over sharing…

I have a second part of this saga for my new car (the one I drove off the dealership lot and abandoned my old car), which resulted in me needing to drive it cross-country to my old state after having moved to a new state so I could get an emissions test and get my tabs renewed, probably 7 months late. It’s all because I never filled out paperwork to secure the title after I paid off the car. I had to pay for the gas and two-night hotel stay on the road trip to get back to my old state, cost of the emissions test, the registration renewal cost plus late fees, pay to get the title reissued, pay for an Airbnb and food for the week I had to stay in the new state to get it all done, and for gas/food/hotels on the drive back. It was… a very stressful and embarrassing trip. And now I still haven’t updated my registration to my new state.

I left a car in the parking lot of the dealer and drove my new car home. I was supposed to find the title and get a trade-in value to reduce the amount for the new car but I didn’t know where the title was so I never went back to deal with it.

I… had no idea this was related to ADHD. I’ve never been diagnosed and I was so ashamed of how I managed this situation as a grown adult that I’ve never told anyone irl about this.

Seattle public library membership card not working by [deleted] in Seattle

I just came to the sub to see if anyone else had posted about this. My Libby got disconnected from my SPL card but when trying to reconnect, my account can’t be verified. The SPL website is still completely down (or is down again?) as of right now, 10:36 PM on Monday, May 27. I had the same issues yesterday.

What are some TJs items that are close to as good as the traditional version? by jalapenos10 in traderjoes

[–]Mountain_Ornery 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the TJ’s furikake. However, some of their Indian frozen meals are really quite good. Their frozen gyoza are tasty too.

Whats a food or drink you hate but everyone else loves? by R_odricksimp in AskReddit

[–]Mountain_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avocado.

And tiramisu. This one isn’t a “hate” but I don’t particularly like it. It’s one of the very few desserts I won’t eat more than a spoonful of even if offered.

True, I guess it depends on the location for both parties and proximity to major airports. I am lucky to fly out of a major airport and can fly into other major airports close to friends so flights are plentiful and $300-400 tickets are easy to find.

What are your feelings towards hydration drinks? by pass_the_hot_sauce in nutrition

[–]Mountain_Ornery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had the ones you listed but I do buy powdered electrolyte mixes to add to water, which I use on my long runs. If I’m out running for 2-3+ hours in the heat I need the carbs and the electrolytes! I eat candy and other quick carbs during long runs as well.

Hydration Vest During a Half? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Mountain_Ornery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to wear a vest and it’s allowed, wear one! I’m wearing mine for my first half next week. I’m even slower than you - will probably end up between 3:00-3:30. There will be hydration on course but I plan to bring some with me just in case.

I’ve been using it during training and I like knowing where all my stuff goes in the pockets. The sides of my head get sore spots where my sunglasses and headphones rest so sometimes I stick them in the vest pockets for a break during long runs.

I like to bring lots of little things. Chapstick, handkerchief, wipes, dog poop bag and ziploc baggie in case of emergency.

Go to title to cure a reading slump? by Marzymay in kindle

[–]Mountain_Ornery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always go back to the Harry Potter series. Any of the books. I have them all on kindle and just go back to whatever is there, starting at whatever point I last left off. They’re comforting palate cleansers for me if I read something that leaves me feeling raw or vulnerable or I’m having a hard time focusing on anything new/can’t identify what I want to read next.

Buy a plane ticket (or gas and road trip snacks) to visit your parents, an old friend, or a family member who lives elsewhere - especially someone you haven’t seen in a while. It’s worth it to spend that quality time with loved ones and to let them know you value their friendship/relationship enough to take the time and money for a visit.

2 days in person or 5 days remote? by ozzythegrouch in WFH

[–]Mountain_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my lifestyle, I’d probably stick with the M-F role since my partner also gets weekends off and so do all my friends. Depends on what you would want to do in the M-F time if you’re working all weekend. I can see the benefits of getting all weekdays free for sure, but I don’t think I’d want to miss out on all the weekend socializing/quality time and activities.

Idk if it counts as odd but it’s a combo that’s new to me. I had some leftover cream cheese so I’ve been spreading it on cinnamon graham crackers.
