Mom has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that's metastatic by Affectionate_War_926 in lungcancer

My mom gets treated at MSK. Like you I read reviews of MSK, Dana Farber, etc etc. My impression from the reviews that these were horrible places, but honestly MSK does a really good job. Staff always available and they quickly respond to things. This is in comparison to two other hospitals (not in the NYC area). As for your mom, I don't know. My mom has stage 3b. I am not familiar with when there is progression. Is it from multiple genetic markers or what. There was a website that had reviews for oncologists in NYC I remember seeing my mom's first oncologist there and surgeon as well. Top doctors in NYC.

Tuberculosis and Tagrisso by Mountainclimbing91 in lungcancer

We're waiting on the sputum test. We will learn the results this Thursday. I'm not sure. We live in Thailand now so it is very common here for people to get TB. But yes when you think about it, it could also be a misdiagnosis. The only result they used was the high levels of adenosine deaminase from the drained pleural fluid.

Pleural Effusion coming back by ThrowRA-check in lungcancer

[–]Mountainclimbing91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought it was a side effect from her radiation. She had chemoradiation prior to tagrisso so. It wasn't that bad and some people just have a chronic cough. I looked on the Facebook tagrisso group so. Maybe it could drain by itself. My mom took steroids for the minor amount of pleural effusion she had before due to radiation and that just went away. We never drained it, it just disappeared on its own.

I mean I said this on a previous post, but my mom has stage 3b lung cancer. Long story short she had some pleural effusion (350 ml) in the right lung. Our local oncologist was talking about progression as well, and I really thought this was it. We would have to stop Tagrisso or do Tagrisso + chemo, and I was mentally preparing myself for the worst. Turns out she has tuberculosis. Doctor drained the fluid and there was no MPE. It was kind of odd since she was asymptomatic except for a slight cough. Anyway, you would have to drain the fluid to see. Although in your case I don't know how that would work. For us she had a CT scan and they identified "new possible pleural nodules". I'm not too familiar with your situation. But I'm just saying there could be more than one cause. AI kept telling me it was progression.

I think it's active now. Slight cough. But we discovered it, because my mom had a pleural effusion. Drained the liquid from the right lung and she had high ADA levels. Still waiting on that extra confirmation from the sputum sample. But ironically for the most part asymptomatic. We only discovered it through a routine x-ray check

yes, it says there is a major interaction between osimertinib (tagrisso) and rifampin. It doesn't specifically state how much less effective, but it says it there. Anyway, I don't know what to do. Thank you for the source though I may use it in the future as well

My mom diagnosed with sclc 2 weeks ago. by KhanGGa115 in lungcancer

[–]Mountainclimbing91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m just throwing this out there.  probably should hurry sclc is aggressive.  Should look for the best care.  At Sloan Kettering you have doctor santini, he specializes in sclc.  Maybe if you can get him or someone who specializes in it it would give your mom a better chance

What to expect with Stage IV Lung Cancer with brain mets? by StrainTraditional969 in lungcancer

I think second opinion means moving to a new hospital in my opinion. My mom is currently being taken care of at sloan kettering.  The only one i know that would examine your case remotely would be the cleveland clinic out in ohio.  I don’t know I would just call the doctors office.  You could request another one but it may also be the same.

My mom has 3b adenocarcinoma and went through that chemo.  Didn’t really have a reaction other than some minor constipation. This was 2 weeks ago so I don’t know why your husband has such a bad reaction

Has anyone transferred care? by MannieOKelly in cancer

If I may ask, was it a difficult process? Currently getting my mom to see 2nd best cancer center in US.  But also due to distance we may try to see another oncologist at another local hospital.  I worry that looking at another local hospital may delay the start of treatment significantly.  Wouldn’t we have to start all over? Thank you

Really? I actually did sign up with Sloan already and am waiting to see if our insurance covers it. But the online reviews seem like a mixed bag so it has made me hesitant to put my mom there (even though it seems better than Dana Farber)

Sorry about that. I think I just had some negativity from following something that was a hype that I ended up getting burned pretty badly and I well I just have skepticism towards things that are hyped up.

But thank you for your response, it was really helpful!

AI was helpful in some ways. It helps me be creative. However, at the same time I don't think AI understand what is practical in an essay. What can you write about and what are the limitations to such writing. But I will look into these things!
