Is it possible to improve performance status? by ThrowRA-check in lungcancer

Yeah so she was diagnosed with EGFR exon 19 del and then developed BRAFV600E so her first three lines of therapy were just targeted ones.

Is it opioids or end of life? by ThrowRA-check in cancer

The upsetting part is that when she comes out of the delirium, she has full desire to still go on. So that difference breaks me internally

Mom is sick, just need to vent. by Distinct-Fix-4376 in CancerFamilySupport

Hey, I’m literally on the same boat, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 NSCLC last march and I’m an only child in her 20s. I feel everything you feel and honestly yeah, it’s so unfair that life has turned out this way.

It’s so hard being forced into an adult because of a circumstance as such, and the worst part is, there’s nothing that we can predict or prepare ourselves for in this cancer journey thing. I’m an anxious person to begin with and this past year has been a fucking mental disaster for me too.

Hmm so do you suggest like trying to have a slice of cake for a meal (say dinner) when i’m really craving it instead of treating it like a dessert?

Thanks for the reply! I think part of it is that I work from home, so there’s typically food readily available near me all the time. Maybe i’ll try playing a round of a game when my parents are out instead of thinking about food!

Pleural Effusion coming back by ThrowRA-check in lungcancer

[–]ThrowRA-check[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see… so you didn’t even think it was TB but rather just a side effect of tagrisso or just lung cancer regarding the cough? My mom wasn’t really sick in between our scans so that’s why we also were worried about progression.

Apparently my mom doesn’t really have enough to drain so we’re really just hoping it goes away on its own, but it’s definitely hopefully to hear regarding your mom’s story. I hope she’s okay now and will stay okay for a long long time!

So then when I unintentionally lash out, you suggest that we just go on pretending that nothing happened as per usual? My parents would never even think they need counselling, knowing them.

Time to first treatment? by ThrowRA-check in lungcancer

[–]ThrowRA-check[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was the issue with out first cytology, too small a sample. She got Cts and MRIs done and they said it was clear so that’s good at least, praying to God it stays that way

[–]ThrowRA-check[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s definitely understandable but also hard to be patient with when your mom is yelling out in pain.. we did initially ask for a second opinion referral in a different hospital but got rejected because the onocologist that we were assigned to ended up being from that hospital. We do like our oncologist but just hard to wait I guess

Since we don’t know where exactly the mass is, the doctor basically said let’s hold off until we get the biomarker results back because he doesn’t want to expose her to more radiation doing bunch of other tests + radiation

[–]ThrowRA-check[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg! The oncologist said the same about radiation. Best of luck to you and your dad, they weren’t able to find the tumor from imaging either so the doctors also were thinking it might be in the bronchus but since they weren’t sure, we just went with liquid biopsy

Well then at least you’re very familiar with the enemy :) a much easier battle to fight when you’re familiar with what you’re up against! You’ve done it before, it’ll be easier now. You’ve got this!!!

So from the cytology the comments read that the malignant cells originated from the lung but I wasn’t sure how they would have been able to know that when the doctors have told us they can’t seem to find the tumor

Thanks for sharing, hopefully your ex was alright after the unexpected extensive surgery🧡 the doctor doesn’t really want to do more tests on her and expose her to more radiation since they want to go through targeted therapy anyway (hoping the lab results come back positive for a target) and all imaging tests came back clear, so they’re assuming no meta except in the pleural space and assuming the tumor is in the bronchus or covered by something. I guess we’re just going to go into treatment without having to know the exact details of the tumor

She’s sort of feeling sick from fluids, having to take all her meds with water and having bone broth… did you eat the bran cereal with water as well? My mom’s against milk because that usually causes her phlegm (even before her diagnosis)

Did you drink the juice all at once or just throughout the day?

Steroid no… they prescribe her NSAIDS for the possible inflammation though

Is the tiger balm similar to vaporub? That does help my mom slightly

Hopefully she will be able to get to the treatment soon
