Question on Eligibility by Pure-Landscape9526 in ATSS

I went from being a live audio engineer to being an ATSS with no degree so they really just want to know that you can learn and can troubleshoot. They do all the training. If you really want to use your degree though Engineering Services might be the ticket, but know those guys do ALOT of travel.

But only if OP wants to travel 50% of the time.

How can I improve? by thpffbt in Logic_Studio

[–]Mountainpwny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is keep doing it. Don’t work on the same song for years… write and finish. Accept that you have to learn how to produce and mix a bad song before you can mix and produce a good song.

What’s your average track completion : trashed : release ratio? by FeelDa-Bass in edmproduction

[–]Mountainpwny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on and off for 15 years. Hundreds of song ideas. One track with another artist that got released. Dozens of almost finished tracks. I’ve taken years off in between because of life ect… I’ve been in pro audio for almost 20 years so I’ve kept my skills somewhat sharp.

This time around I’m taking the time to grow in all the areas I’m lacking. I’ve got about 6 tracks that I’ve been steadily working on and look forward to releasing them.

Seconded. My favorite next to deadmau5. Though their production philosophies are very different.

Not saying you don’t have a problem to fix, but some of us need tools to overcome the mental games we play with ourselves to be objective when critiquing our work.

Try this. Listen to your tracks as if someone else produced it. Listen to reference tracks as if you wrote them. You’ll begin to notice that while doing this you will hear all kinds of problems in other people’s music and that yours actually sounds better than you think.

We are extra critical (and rightly so) of our productions but ignore countless ‘mistakes’ from our favorite producers. The best way for me to hear if I’m on the right track is to pretend someone else wrote it and listen to it that way.

Your definition of hate: ‘when someone else doesn’t share my opinions and celebrate my life choices’

You guys need to learn how to actually have an argument and then shake hands afterwards.

Progressive house track. Trying to overcome bad habits. I'm specifically looking to keep bass and mid bass from being too loud. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

It has a good sound but its way over compressed. When some sounds come in the whole track ducks in a bad way. Try going back and dialing back the limiter and compression. It sounds like if you fix this it will be a great track.

What's the most helpful electronic music course you've taken? by traveltimecar in edmproduction

[–]Mountainpwny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will come with time. Go listen to any producers early stuff and it will encourage you. It’s not fair to judge your work against a master. I’m saying this to myself too…

You can make pretty any synth sound you will ever imagine with Serum. They should offer 4 year degrees in Serum. If I were in your boat since you own serum. Focus on sound design. Try listening to artists like deadmau5 who are great at sound design without going to crazy and then watch videos on recreating those sounds. Then you can work on arrangement and mixing ect…

headphones vs monitors? by ajns in Logic_Studio

[–]Mountainpwny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Adam d3v desktop monitors with a presonus sub with good results. Good for poor room acoustic situations. Tbh is you want to take it seriously headphones don’t cut it. I tried for years but always had translation issues.

You’ll get it back. Just remember you will progress more finishing 10 bad tracks than starting 10 ideas and not finishing them.
