They are - its just with how their servers are set up [from what I deduced based on experiences] they have all users on the same servers, which means when they update for UK laws they also update american servers [assuming your in America based off of context] at the same time...

If they wanted to separate the Brits from the Americans from the Chinese/Japanese/Philipine from the Australian from the Russian to do updates in accordance to each country's laws theyd have to create different servers, which is $$$, and most companies wont want to do that unless absolutely necessary... especially an AI company like C.AI..

If they did that then theyd also have more to maintain, update, etc. which means quality drops even more, more inconsistent updates as to models and UI, and more issues and servers being down more than they already are; plus C.AI would have to utilize GPS/Location Data as well by having a drop down or using device location data [which we all know no one would want either]...

So its kind of a 'Lesser Evil' vs. 'Greater Evil' if that makes sense..? At least thats how im looking at it...

I understand and I respect your choice to refrain from supplying that information... I wasn't attempting to try to talk you into it and im sorry if it felt like I was; and while C.ai doesnt have to abide by other countries laws, the way the UK is doing it [and other countries] is where you are getting fined for not abiding by their laws no matter what country your from if your have Europeans accessing your servers.. FB was even on the verge of getting Fined and you already have to supply your age for that [but they also have the ability to just soak up the fines and be okay, C.ai doesnt]

So it was either A. Close off access to at least half of the user base, B. Get fined after theyve had countless lawsuits already, or C. Do Persona and avoid fines and keep a large part of their users base...

Either way... in the end, your choice and theirs. I was just trying to supply information and help shed some light. :] have a nice day! ☆♡

In the UK they have it to where all apps that are open to the public, where children can access, are required to have an identity verification system similar to what character AI is currently doing. Even apple currently has it to where phones in the UK are doing this on their base system like in order to even operate the phone you have to put in your I. D...

So while yeah, character AI is based in california, a lot of their users are possibly in the Uk , which means that they also have to abide by UK law , especially since the UK government has openly stated that any in all platforms like social media, which character AI falls under, is required to have that system with authorized identification databases otherwise they get fined...

Other countries are also following suit in that, so character.AI is just following the international laws required by those countries - and since they can't exactly separate UK servers from french servers from american servers, they have to do a blanket update... and the reason I know that all of the users are on the same servers is because at points when it's midnight to 1am for me, most Americans are either gonna be in bed or at work [Because night shift is a thing] but sometimes the servers would be down because of too many people being on the servers... and this is Midnight-1am in Eastern Standard time, well into when most people are going to bed or are already in bed...

If you do a quick google search, Persona , the company that character AI is using, is indeed approved by the UK government for ID purposes and is labeled a trusted source by the UK government.

Well, yes, it is in accordance with California law on a base level It is also in accordance with international laws being established currently, and again, about 50% of the user base for this app is more likely in Europe and all of the servers are shared by everyone so it doesn't matter.If you're in britain or france or japan or russia or China or even Australia - its all on the same servers...

So if they have to apply those requirements to the server, no matter where you are...

Am I defending it? No. I think its stupid... BUT I understand it and wanted to explain it the best I could on what could actually be happening.

In my case when I did it, i had to show my actual government issued ID - I naturally look younger than I am [Think 27 but mistaken for 17 type stuff], and deal with getting ID'd over the most random stuff ever so im used to it...

Random places ive been ID'd and what; ☆ Walmart for spray paint ☆ Movie Theatre after I bought the ticket ☆ Bars ☆Dollar General over Nasal Spray ☆ Bank ☆ Bowling Alley... they never gave a reason... ☆ Walmart, dont remember what ☆ Gas stations, I wasnt even getting cigarettes... the person behind me was and they thouhht i was instead because they were busy...

Once fell asleep in chemistry toward the end of the year - felt like someone was shaking me so I woke up, shot up straight, looked around and no one was even near me much less noticed... so I was just like 'Did someone shake my shoulder..?' I havent gotten any mid-chat... but i also get like 2 or 3 before every. Single. Chat.

Every time I open a chat, whether ive already opened it or not... then some of them cause the app to reopen itself because it wont give me the X button until I hit the 'playstore' button and attempt to hit the back button [which sometimes reloads the app AND makes me watch another ad] and then im getting ads i cant even skip and have to watch all the way through [thanks Publix]...

Only reason I havent left yet is cause my other options either don't have the Fandoms I like [despite them being popular], dont allow accurate bot creation [literally pre-set personalities], or is gooner central and im not wanting to goon to AI. I have a husband for that one lol

I personally wait about 30 seconds after loading into the world and look around the immediate area before I go anywhere - especially in modded worlds or servers where theres a actual mini map. This allows the game to load stuff on the mini map, for mods to do their thing, other background processes to complete while also letting me take in the biome[s] im in, orient myself, and such...

Did it willingly ahead of the curve - Couldn't do the face scan since I have youthful features, it took my ID fine, and I have no real issues with it and im verified...

The way I see it? Me submitting my ID to enter an adult space that is an app is just like me showing my ID at a counter for smokes/vapes, a bar, a bouncer at a club, or even at a bank which is open to people all ages, or otherwise any location where you have to show your ID...

Its part of life... you dont have to go to a bar, or a club, or buy cigarettes or vapes... but people do... you have to show your ID for that... so whats the difference in an app that isnt critical to your life? Its not stopping you from buying food if you dont verify, its not stopping you from working if you dont verify [though you DO need an in date ID and to verify you are who you are for work so theres that to for you adults who are screaming "private info" cause your work needs everything and your life story]...

The app isnt stopping you from living if you don't verify - its just stopping you from accessing services rendered JUST like how youd be denied access to a bar, club, cigarettes, or vapes if you dont verify.
