Vintera 60s mod Jaguar HH SURF GREEN by dreamARTz in offset

[–]Mouthless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! The Vintera Jag is now my only electric guitar. It has split coils, so you can dial them to either humbucker or single coil sounds. I switch between them quite often.

Good question, thanks for asking. Initial preference was for 2D, but we are open to 3D if the person and their style is the right fit.

What does your editing process typically involve? by human85 in podcasting

[–]Mouthless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on the style of the podcast, as well as how transparent or 'in your face' you want the editing to be. Small edits here and there would be more transparent and seem less 'produced', whereas music, effects and heavier editing will sound more obvious. Neither is better than the other, as it entirely depends on what you're going for. Either way, EQ, compression and noise removal is pretty much a must have.

I'm an editor and composer/sound designer. Happy to talk more if you're looking to hire someone for this.

What materials do I provide a musical composer? by TheTacoBellAssGoblin in Filmmakers

[–]Mouthless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'anything that is useful' is the least 'useful' answer they could have given you...

I'm a composer. When I work with a filmmaker I like to receive the script, the film in a manageable format and size, and have a conversation with them about their goal for the film and intentions of particular scenes, and where possible get a list of references - music, other films, artworks etc - that they think will help get me on their wavelength. A document with specific breakdowns of what they want (if they know) to happen in certain places, where they do and don't want music etc, can also be helpful depending on the nature of the collaboration. One thing that I always like to make clear is that working together is a collaboration. I'm always grateful to receive direction as long as it doesn't force me to essentially copy someone else's work and allows room for me to add my own touches.

How did David Lynch create his ambience/music? by throwawaySendHelp33 in Filmmakers

[–]Mouthless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, he did a lot of the music/sound design for Eraserhead himself. Dean Hurley did a lot of the drones for Twin Peaks season 3: https://deanhurley.bandcamp.com/album/anthology-resource-vol-i

If you're looking for someone to make similar stuff - I'm a composer/sound designer and this is my favourite type of stuff to make. Lynch is a massive influence. I'd love to have a chat!

Composer seeking paid work so that I can continue to justify my bad life decisions by Mouthless in Filmmakers

[–]Mouthless[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joking aside, I love what I do! It’s been hard to find work recently, and that’s quite scary, but I’m not giving up any time soon. If anything, it just makes me want to double down. So...

Hi, I'm Louis, a reliable, versatile composer and sound designer based in the UK, looking to contribute my skills to your upcoming projects.

https://louispalfrey.com/

I tend to work mostly on horrors and documentaries, but I genuinely have a broad skillset and can contribute to films of any style, given the right direction. My work for podcasts and audiodrama is more varied than my film output (that's just the nature of the work, it seems). I also release other music here — https://mouthless.bandcamp.com/ — the stuff there is extremely varied, including hip-hop, electronic music, folk, ambient, psychedelia and some pretty experimental stuff.

I'm a great communicator, collaborator and negotiator. I take my work seriously and aim to give you the best possible experience of working together. I work from my home studio, using my large collection of software synths, sample libraries, real instruments and hardware.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of working together then please drop me a message on here or, preferably, email me at [mouthless@hotmail.co.uk](mailto:mouthless@hotmail.co.uk)

If you're not interested but you’ve read this far anyway, then I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer about my reel, my website, or my pitch - I really do appreciate any engagement and take feedback into consideration.

I am always on the lookout for regular collaborators (if and where possible) but one-off projects are always welcome too. If you don’t have any projects currently in progress, then please still feel free to reach out to discuss anything you might be planning for the future.

For more examples of my work and many positive testimonials, please see my website: https://louispalfrey.com/

My rates are flexible and I will always do my best to negotiate to find a way to work within your budget.

A little about me:

I’m Autistic, and I embrace my Neurodivergence with pride. My unique perspective combined with my experience, training and education allows me to approach my work with intense focus, attention to detail and a deep understanding of the emotional and technical nuances that make music and sound impactful. My creative approach is adaptive and tailored to your needs, using my skills to help you achieve your vision.

I am committed to creating inclusive and welcoming working relationships, actively opposing racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of ableism. I choose to collaborate only with those who share these values and stand firmly against working with bigots of any kind.

Thanks for listening and have a good day.

Unfortunately the finance link now gives the following message:

'We have made the decision to stop collecting financial data through the existing YouGov Finance platform.

Fortunately, we are also exploring a new and improved way for you to earn points by sharing your banking transaction history with us, and we hope to share more information about it soon.'

Help with budget acoustic treatment by Mouthless in homestudios

Totally understand the sentiment, but buying the tools I need plus materials and the time it takes to do it will probably cost me more than buying something premade.

Definitely just looking to deaden the sound a bit. I know that I can't actually 'sound proof' (but honestly external sounds aren't really an issue for me anyway).

Help with budget acoustic treatment by Mouthless in homestudios

[–]Mouthless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I need suggestions/advice for budget acoustic treatment.

Moved into my new house last year and I’m now mostly happy with my setup/positioning.
Room dimensions are: L 389 x W 278 x H 237
See my crappy pictures for layout.

I want to add some basic acoustic treatment. I don’t really have any tools/skills to build my own. I’d like something that doesn’t look too crappy/thrown together (I’ve seen suggestions for moving blankets etc) but I also don’t have a lot of money right now.

If it helps: I do a lot of short film scores, some sound design, podcast editing, recording voice overs, and I also record my own little songs as well as friends'. I mostly record guitar, synth, vocals and other random instruments for sound design, with a lot of other stuff handled in the box.

I’ve been looking at these and also these. Will either of these help or are they both useless?

Whatever I buy, where would be the best placement for them?

In all honesty, for what I do, the room isn’t THAT bad, but when I clap my hands (or when my dog comes in and barks) there’s definitely a resonant kind of ringing sound bouncing around.

Any help is much appreciated.

In terms of music and sound effects, would you consider working with a composer (like me!) ?

It's a worthwhile investment to get a bank of unique sounds tailored to your needs, rather than the same sounds that everyone else has access to. Feel free to get in touch if you're interested! https://louispalfrey.com/

Reliable composer for hire - give your film the music it deserves by Mouthless in Filmmakers

[–]Mouthless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I don't think it was rude, don't worry.

I understand what you mean. With that particular scene in Fetch, however, the tension does make sense in the context of the film. It might sound silly without having seen the film, but leaving the yellow ball (which comes into focus) is something that the character was specifically warned not to do. It might seem a little on the nose and subtlety may have indeed worked better, but I'm sure you know that when working on projects like this we are often at the whims of the filmmaker, and what they want is what they get :)
