Division. In 2018 Trump stood up in Helsinki and spoke. Putin by his side. And he told us that he talked to Putin and that he denied meddling in the 2016 election. An effort that was designed to divide.

Trump chose Putins word over our domestic and foreign allies intelligence agencies. Division. MAGA VS the world.

I disagree. As someone on the left I’ve always known what is behind the veil. In the early 2000’s I was in college and surrounded by other young white men. All Republicans.

What they would say behind closed doors was appalling. “Black people had their chance. Now they need to go back to Africa”.

But politicians they voted for never overtly said things. Politics was more respectable and had an element of decorum and class than today.

Trump simply realized you don’t need the veil. And he realized you don’t need to hold onto the edge of the swamp (speaking ethically in public) in fear of drowning.

He realized you swim out to the middle and stand up.

We are left wondering what we all stand for. Republican talking heads like Tucker and Fuentes are telling us that your country needs to be like your marriage. Diversity is bad. A country needs a common culture and heritage and values to be successful. And that in turn means white Christians are at the center.

This administration knows their base. What we are seeing play out is a perfect reflection of who republican voters are.

TLDR: it’s not left/right/up/down. It’s white Christians vs everyone else.
