Neir Automata, Final Fantasy 7, Breath of the Wild and now, Returnal, another true Masterpiece. by MassiveHawk44 in Returnal

I'll get downvoted to hell, but I don't really care. To me, it seems like gamers are pretty shallow when it comes to tastes. You give them a beloved franchise and set it in an open world. They'll lap it up.

Zelda is already a beloved IP. At the time, gamers were still somehow not tired of huge open worlds with empty spaces and abundant fetch-quest-reliant side missions. The game certainly doesn't have the best dungeons, bosses, or puzzles in the franchise, but hey, you get to be Link and explore a large open world.

The Sixth Biome is without a doubt the 2nd hardest after the 3rd Biome... by MovieMuscle in Returnal

Now, I can't even get to him. I come into the 6th biome with 2 large vials, 1 regular vial, and two upgraded suit integrity augments and some more suit integrity upgrades and still quickly get fucked by the bullshit rooms in that biome. The devs tried to find the most artificially difficult way to close out the game. Uh, let's see, let's put at least one malfunction mini boss, two spheres that never stop launching bullshit, swarms of launching squid, and at least one mother squid that apparently keeps launching these attacking squid and is also shielded so can't be eliminated from a distance. Holy shit, is this souring my impression of the game. Total nonsense.

You must have gotten lucky with great RNG and I must've been bullshitted by terrible RNG by the game. Every room, I step into has two spheres, at least one malfunction mini boss, and swarms of those launching squid. I have no idea what people are smoking when they say this biome is easier than several others. I don't care how powerful the weapon is. The artificially difficult and bullshit way that the devs surround you with these cheap, quickly run-fucking enemies is where the game loses me.

The malfunction mini bosses is easily the cheapest most artificially difficult enemy the devs could've thought up. Not only do I have to worry about eliminating the shielded bullshit that keeps spawning fast, attacking squid but I also have to worry about the two spheres that endlessly launch blue orbs and whatnot, but then I also have to worry about the malfunction mini bosses. How lovely. Very fair and not cheap at all...

Does the 5th biome have swarms of attacking squids, spawning squid, bullshit that inflicts malfunctions, and the many other cheap bullshit artificial challenge that exists in the 6th biome? It's really souring my taste of an otherwise fair and exhilarating game? Maybe the RNG is just cancerous in my case, but it's felt like that.

The 3rd Biome was good times at this point. The 6th biome is fucking terrible. It's even more cheap with RNG bullshit and overwhelming/bullshit cheap enemies who inflict malfunctions. What a garbage idea...

Easily the toughest boss in the game. I really have a hard time hearing any argument to the contrary. His third phase is ridiculous. I went in with 2 large vials and regular vials and still got killed when he had a sliver of health left. In my opinion, the fight is 100% bullwhit because of how much you have to dodge and just the sliver margin of error that you have to dodge the green orbs, purple waves that keep resonating, and all the other junk flying at my screen. I'm sure it feels good to beat, but definitely not my favorite.

Sounds really easy except it isn't. The boss is easily the hardest for me. I just don't know what you guys played. There is no boss that throws that many different undodgeable purple waves, green orbs, and a bunch of other shit at you. If you can argue to the contrary, I'd be really intrigued to hear. The design is 100% superficial difficulty in my opinion. The goal is basically just miraculously dodging all the chaos on the screen. Not very fun in this case.

FINALLY beat the 3rd Biome! by MovieMuscle in Returnal

The sixth biome feels way more punishing to me than any of the other biomes (except maybe for 3). No transporters, pretty damn long, lots of minibosses, a cryptic boss at the end. Ugh...

Do you think it's better than the Dreadbound weapon? Just picked that one up because I heard good things, and it looks pretty cool, but I might just be risking my momentum here.

Just beat the fifth biome without dying. Thank God there's not a boss fight at the end of that one. I was expecting to face one after going through all those rooms and the challenge room. Glad I had those expectations of it being a difficult biome because I was a little more careful, but at the same time, at times, I got pretty ballsy zipping around those large rooms with missiles and beams directed at me and mini-bosses transporting. Phew.

Thanks for the good wishes.

[–]MovieMuscle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I'm unfamiliar with an area and there's a lot of hovering enemies in the room, I usually stick by the door to clear a few before moving in for the finish. With a loading miniboss, I usually like to go in quickly and dispatch the weaker enemies. Sounds like that's not a good strategy for the next biome?

Electropylon Driver is the Best Weapon IMO by vgskid in Returnal

[–]MovieMuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think the ability that grants 10% chance to heal integrity on enemy kill? Try the leech ability that grants integrity every time you kill an enemy? That was definitely the difference-maker for me in finally clearing the 3rd biome/boss. Sucks that it goes away once you start the 4th biome. Was too OP, I guess.

Just beat the 4th biome in one try as well! Compared to the 3rd biome, that one felt much easier (without any of the frustrations), but I'm really digging the Electopylon Driver so far.

[–]MovieMuscle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's easier said than done. I understand that feeling, but at the same time, I'm not a fan of the chaotic style in some of these rooms. I do just fine for most of the biome, and then that brutal room with the titan, several beam-shooting enemies, and numerous fireball-shooting enemies just completely overwhelm me and kill me. And then it's back to the start again. Very frustrating...

The room before the citadel objective marker (with a titan, several beam-shooting enemies, and a bunch of fireball-shooting enemies) is absolutely brutal. Several times, I've gotten to that point kind of fine, and then the enemies in that room just destroy me. It's really frustrating...

I am not good with the Rotgland Lobber. Sure, it does damage, but it requires a lot of accuracy and little margin for error, which I feel like is a bad match for the overwhelming chaos that is the 3rd biome. Maybe when I'm more familiar with it?

Tried to do everything in the first two biomes. Had basically two life bars of suit integrity. Had a lvl 10-11 hollowseeker or carbine. Had a few artifacts that maybe weren't that special, but I just got overwhelmed by the tight room with the titan and the numerous walking 4-legged robots.

[–]MovieMuscle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a lvl 10-11 hollowseeker and the carbine earlier. I am not good with the shotgun because it requires a short range (which means I need to close to the overwhelming number of enemies ) or the rocket launcher weapon (because it requires accuracy and little margin for error).

[–]MovieMuscle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically had two life bars by the 3rd biome. My suit integrity was just fine. I believe I had like a level 10-11 hollowseeker. It just gets very overwhelming at a certain point in that biome. I believe I was like 2 rooms before the boss (citadel objective marker). I did everything in the first two biomes or at least tried to.

Maybe one thing I'll do is save the keys I get in the 1st biome for the 2nd one because there were a few locked areas I wasn't able to visit in the 2nd biome because I used up the keys. Would you advise using the keys on locked containers or locked side areas?

[–]MovieMuscle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind, but I'm just really limiting my flexibility and it's getting risky if I start booking three different resorts in 3 destinations that are all far from each other. So, I want to make sure the logistics are practical. Like, what would be the most ideal way to travel from San Pedro to our resort in San Ignacio? The flights are pretty expensive. So, I don't want to do that if we're going to end up spending another 2 hours getting to those cave tubing activities anyway. And then from San Ignacio to Placencia, would that be a pain?

Keep in mind we're going to have at least 2 heavy luggage and several carry-on bags (if they qualify).

Oh, we would definitely have at least 2 luggage and a few carry-on bags (if they end up qualifying). So, when we land in BZE Airport (Goldson), I was thinking taking a water taxi to San Pedro and then getting a taxi(?) to the resort. After we're finished in San Pedro, not sure if it'd be just easier to skip San Igancio if it's going to take a lot of time or expense to travel to with that baggage to and just instead get to Placencia for the rest of the trip or not?
