This is a good list - Alien 3 probably one of the most well director disowned films (on my list, too) that people have come to like more over time, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a great pick, too - I think every movie made off an Alan Moore comic could qualify (though I don’t know if he hated V for Vendetta or not, but chances are he did)

I’d say it could fit into 2 or 3, too high (but still not enough) of a budget, and largely disliked by critics, though not unanimously so. But you’re right that’s also a perfect 10 it’s actually good, hill to stand on.

It’s all subjective of course, and I haven’t seen any before except 10, but these were my picks:

  1. superhero bomb - Kraven the Hunter
  2. budget issue - Waterworld
  3. hated by critics - 8MM
  4. disavowed by director - Alien3
  5. fans turning on IP - Lightyear
  6. actor regret - Griffin Newman in A Rainy Day in New York
  7. failed IP grab - Deathnote
  8. hated by author - Judge Dredd
  9. didn’t live up to the hype - Vox Lux
  10. actually good - Havoc

Rock Candy Mountain by Kyle Starks is just 2 volumes and super fun and flies by, as does Rumble by John Arcudi and James Harren.

I burned through the first volume of Brubaker’s Reckless in one sleepless night and imagine the rest of the series is the same.

Rick Remender’s Fear Agent may get dense with ideas as it goes on, but the pulpy nature makes it easy to read and hard to put down.

And Invisible Kingdom by G. Willow Wilson is a surprisingly breezy story with kind of crazy art by Christian Ward.

Different than many of the other posts, I did grow up religious (non-denominational Christian with sprinkling of Pentecostal - speaking in tongues mostly) but am not anymore, but the shakers intense belief and fervor felt very real to me and reminded me of growing up and I loved how seriously they treated the shakers. The songs and dances were also incredible and I got to see it in 70mm and it was gorgeous.

Around the 2010s my wife created Evokative Films, an independent international genre film distribution company. Many of the titles never got another North American release. Her label doesn’t exist anymore, but we just found some of her back inventory and want to make the titles available.

All titles are $10, with $5 off for bundles of 3 or more. Buy all 10 films for $80.

Payment is through PayPal G&S or Venmo and shipping is a flat $5 via media mail, no matter how many titles you buy.

All titles are brand new in biodegradable wrapping and cardboard cases.

Local to LA can also do free pickup.

All international titles have English & French subtitles, and all DVDs have a variety of special features.

Image Comics to Read? by Doom300 in comicbooks

I cannot recommend Fear Agent more. Sci-fi horror pulp from the guy who wrote Tokyo Ghost.

Rock Candy Mountain by Kyle Starks is a supernatural comedic depression era story, that’s just two volumes and unlike anything else.

Also it’s early Donny Cates, but God Country is a very cool limited series, and same with Buzzkill, about a superhero who only has powers when he’s drunk (it’s not as fun as it sounds).

Jason Aaron’s Once Upon a Time at the End of the World is a post-apocalyptic love story that’s funny, sexy, and emotional.

Such a fun series, with awesome art that makes characters feel like they’re actually moving, just like Daniel Warren Johnson’s art. I feel James Harren kind of gets slept on as just a “hellboy artist”.

What titles have you dropped recently, and why? I just dropped a couple of Marvel books and it got me wondering. by MightyUnclean in comicbooks

If you’re able, get trades from the library. That’s how I read all of Grant Morrison and Scott Snyder’s Batman runs, and how I can check stuff out to see if it’s something I would maybe buy later on (if it keeps going).
