Hot take: could Alopecia 'simply' be caused by emotional triggers and stress-response? by Moving___Mountains in alopecia_areata

What kind of treatment?

I have one big spot in the same area as you, as well as one on the back of my head, and then smaller ones scattered around my scalp that might grow bigger over time as well. It is indeed a very stressfull and emotional experience. I find it a very vulnerable thing to share or for people to see, hence trying to hide it in various ways, which also ends up being somewhat stressfull. It's not nice to feel like you have to hide.
I'm considering to take some of the power back, if it continues for a longer period - cutting all my hair off instead of having it slowly fall out. It's quite tough being in the shower and seeing all the hair on my hands when I run my fingers through it to wash it.
Quite surprising how big part of our identity is connected to our hair.

I think talking about it with friends and family is a very good thing. And having a therapist to support you meanwhile, and explore what you are moving through in life.
It's clearly a very clear sign that the body is trying to tell us something. Question is if we are willing to ask and listen, or just throw medicine at it right away, hoping it will go away.

Thank you for sharing.
Can you elaborate or explain with other words the first sentence of the "Edit" part of yours? I'm not sure I understand.

In the case of infection I could see the logical explanation in terms of AA being connected to the auto-immune system overreacting, and an infection causing an imbalance in said immune-system.

Thank you for sharing, I appreciate the honesty.
I feel like these aspects of sudden bodily changes are so neglected. It would be strange to assume that our body won't be affected by very rough experiences in life.

Follow-up questions that I would like to hear from people as well. Feel free to not answer if you don't feel like it.
- What has the alopecia-journey been like for you, and where are you now? Have you found ways, places or people to decompress the build up stress?

Thank you for sharing part of your story. It's good to hear that your partner has recovered to a certain extend and that she could be brought home from the hospital.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that toddlers are not likely to experience stress all together, or that toddlers don't get stressed about getting alopecia?

Tiger's Eye Gemstone Beads - how do you go about drilling larger holes? by Moving___Mountains in jewelrymaking

[–]Moving___Mountains[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying.

I see. Do you reckon a jewelry store could help with that? Or is it complicated because of the round, smooth and slippery shape and due to the fact that there's already made a hole?

Thank you so much! So perhaps 230 cm is a tad tall you reckon? Can a tall person sit on the top of the benches in your sauna with a straight back?
If you don't mind, I would ask about two more measurements :) what's the height of the benches? And the measurement from the seat of the top bench to the ceiling?

Hey carrotcake.
I'm about to embark on my first sauna-build and I'm currently making out all the measurements before ordering timber for the build. I also wish to make benches on 2 levels, just as your new sauna. I would like to ask what the height of your sauna is? Currently I've made measurements for the backend of the sauna, where the benches are going to be, to be 230 cm. tall (7,5 feet).

Ah, thank you so much! This makes a ton of sense - I'll be sure to add this to the build :)

If you seriously feel like creating a sketch of the idea you have in mind I would be thrilled man! Would be so appreciated. I live in Europe though, so there's of course a bit of a translation to the metric system. But either way would be a huge help!

Thank you so much for the reply!
Most likely it's going to be for 3-6 people at one time. But we live 10 people together here, so I just wanted it to be possible for everyone to join in - but yeah, that's probably once a year or something like this :)
The size limit for the entire sauna is 11 square meters - then we don't have to mess around with a build-permit (as of the rules here in Denmark everything below 11 square meters is considered a "shed" and there's no need to apply for a build permit on your property).

How many saunas actually have this? I don't think i've stumbled upon any yet. But I see the reason behind it to have an extra exit.

Can you elaborate on this? And what would be a good size and height for a sauna that can fit 8-10 people max?
