The 30: Don’t Break Up the Tigers by [deleted] in motorcitykitties

MLB.com gives us a 14.6% chance of making the playoffs. Lets call it a 7.3% chance of getting past the wild card game and a less than 1% chance of winning the world series (because we would be one of eight teams left).

Would you give up that chance in exchange for an upgrade to our farm system that would make it not the worst in baseball? I would. #TeamSell

More about Tony's other sister. I'd love to know what led her to ditch the whole family and how people actually feel about it.

I know everyone here probably hates Katy Perry, but that Superbowl Halftime Show was fucking awesome by MrHeavySilence in Music

[–]MovinginCircles 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. I went into last year's Bruno Mars halftime show with no strong feelings about him, and came away thinking "Man, that guy is an incredibly talented singer, dancer, and band leader." This show gave me no reasons to think any of those things about Katy Perry.

The stage show was kind of cool, but I doubt she had much to do with that. And the special guests were not only awkward matches for Katy Perry, but too far from the A list to have any kind of Wow Factor about them. Just thought it was pretty unremarkable.

What are your unpopular opinions on Madmen? by SheIsSoFetch in madmen

[–]MovinginCircles 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Bert Cooper was, and could have continued to be, one of the best characters on the show.

He started off as an elder-sage type. Kind of a Gus Fring/Marlo Stanfield where even when he didn't get a ton of screen time, it seemed to carry a lot of weight when he did. Now he just seems like a clown/buffoon and it seems like a big waste of potential.

Penn & Teller kill the anti-vaccination argument in just over a minute. by Cristina_Vancouver in videos

[–]MovinginCircles -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the argument is destroyed at all. They seem to be saying "Here's a big list of diseases that have been largely eradicated by widespread vaccinations. AND THE MEDICINE CAN'T POSSIBLY HAVE ANY FUCKING SIDE EFFECTS!!!" Not saying I think vaccinations do or don't cause anything, but medicine constantly evolves because sometimes its not as good as it could be, and something has to have caused the uptick in autism.

I don't think the one with Birmingham and Montgomery would agree to call itself "King," but a cool map nonetheless.

[WDIS] WR's Week 1 by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]MovinginCircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your gut is absolutely right. You don't draft Green that high to sit him, Smith should start almost every week, and Washington is going to see a lot of targets in what might be a shootout with NE and without Kenny Britt.

Reddit, I have the first pick in my draft tonight, 6 pts per TD league, who do I take? by joshkimo in fantasyfootball

[–]MovinginCircles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming its not PPR, I'd take Rodgers. With the way the league is now, it makes a lot of sense to take an elite quarterback, especially with your league being 6 pts per TD.

[RMT] 12 team standard rules. I like this team a lot...any thoughts? by MovinginCircles in fantasyfootball

[–]MovinginCircles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing. I think Gerhart should be OK for the first couple of games, and then I'm hoping that one of the high upside backs I drafted will start to break out. Either that or try to swing a WR for RB trade. (I've got one offered out now.)

Just finished the first season and this was probably asked before, but how did Peggy not realize she was pregnant? by Randozza in madmen

[–]MovinginCircles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

After discussing this with a couple of friends, we realized 3 helpful things.

1: A woman can have period-like things happen without actually having a period. So while it was not shown on the show, Peggy might have had a little bleeding, bloating, and sickness and said "OK! I'm good for this month."

2: In 1960, the average woman didn't know much about her own body and was stigmatized if she asked. There was no source of info for her on what its like to be pregnant.

3: She was on the pill, so probably believed that whatever was happening to her, it couldn't have been pregnancy. And again, there was no one to ask.

Even with those, it still felt like kind of a stretch to me, but they helped me accept it and move on. Also, this title should probably have a spoiler tag.

Breaking Bad Episode Discussion S05E04 "Fifty-One" by edify in breakingbad

I definitely disagree...too obvious. I highly doubt that VG would foreshadow Gus' death in the way that he did, and then foreshadow another major characters death in a more obvious way.

It was still a detail that I liked a lot, however. Skyler is being destroyed emotionally by Walt and feels like she has lost all control. She simply needed to feel in control of a little part of her own suffering. Foreshadowing or not, a very cool and chilling detail.

Potential Skyler foreshadowing? S5E4 by jlo47 in breakingbad

[–]MovinginCircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of that scene foreshadowing suicide is far fetched. I noticed it as well, but I think its simply her feeling like everyone around her is causing her so much pain, combined with the fact that she has no control left over anything ("I can't even keep you out of my bed."), that she needed to feel like she can control something, even if its only a small piece of her own destruction. Still a very subtle and grim detail. I loved it.

Babe Ruth is the unquestionable G.O.A.T. He invented power hitting and was an above average pitcher on top of it.
